The church has used lectionaries--"lists of Scriptures to be read on particular Sundays--"for centuries. Because most lectionaries, however, assume the hearers are familiar with the Christian Year, today's church is challenged to reach out to those who are spiritually hungry, yet unfamiliar with the Christian story.
