  • Description

This text is based on the understanding and application of three fundamental physical considerations which govern the mechanics of solids in equilibrium. All the discussion and theoretical development is explicitly related to these three basic considerations. This approach brings in unity to an elementary presentation of the subject. Considerable emphasis has been put on the process of constructing idealized models to represent actual physical situations.

    Salient Features

    • Completely in SI Units
    • The book begins with all crude approximations and goes on to remove them one-by-one leading to a more realistic picture of the concepts
    • Every topic linked to the fundamental principles of strength of materials

    Strong pedagogical features includes:

    • 626 Figures
    • 75 Solved Examples
    • 456 Problems

    The Best Introductory Text

An Introduction to Mechanics of Solids is the best introductory text book on Solid Mechanics. It is highly recommended for students of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and others who take solid mechanics as one of the courses. Though it is an introductory text it includes substantial amount of discussion which will serve the purpose as an introduction to more vigorous treatment of the subject.

This book follows an unique method to solve problems of deformable bodies. This unique...

Not a good book for building concepts

Before I say anything, I ought to tell you that I am more of a self study guy. So this review is for students who prefer to read in depth on their own rather than depending too much on Profs. It is not at all a book that can be used for concept building. Too much text and very less "relevant" diagrams makes it very hard to understand especially for a student who has just begun with Solid Mechanics. (Mechies and Civils). I recommend other books if you seriously want to make your foundation in ...
