  • Description

Introduction To Nanotechnology 1st Edition is an elaborate guide on the basic concepts of nanotechnology.

    Summary Of The Book

Nanotechnology is one of the most important fields of science that aid all other fields of science including physics, chemistry and biology. It involves manipulating matter on a molecular and atomic scale. It encompasses several different fields of science in its purview including organic chemistry, surface science, semiconductor physics, microfabrication, molecular biology etc.

The main objective of this book is providing an introduction to nanotechnology, such that researchers in other areas too can appreciate this science at a new level and technical administrators can have a bird’s eye view of this subject. The book also helps conduct basic surveys in this field. This book uses representative research examples to explain each important individual concept and other areas of investigation.

It contains chapters on Physics of Solid State, Properties of Individual Nanoparticles, Carbon Nanostructures, Nanostructure Ferro-Magnetism, Methods of Measuring Properties, Nanostructured Materials in bulk, Vibrational Spectroscopy, Optical Spectroscopy, Wires, Dots, Quantum Wells, Catalysis, Self Assembly, Polymers, Organic Compounds, Biological Materials, Nanodevices and Nanomachines.

The part on Introduction to Physics of the Solid State contains information on Crystal Structures, Lattice Vibrations, Size Dependence of Properties, Energy Bands, Fermi Surfaces, Reciprocal Space, Insulators, Conductors, Effective Masses, Gaps of Semiconductors etc.
The chapter Methods of Measuring Properties contains information on Crystallography, Atomic Structures, Surface Structure, Determination of Size of Particles, Microscopy and Spectroscopy. The next chapter on Nanoparticle Properties consists of Metal Nanoclusters, Semiconductor Nanoparticles, Molecular Clusters, Rare Gas and Methods of Synthesis.

Similarly, the part on Nanostructured Ferromagnetism consists of Ferromagnetism Basics, Nanomagnet Dynamics, Bulk Nanostructuring of Magnetic Properties, Ferrofluids, Nanocarbon Ferromagnets etc. Another part on Bulk Nanostructured Material contains topics like solid disordered nanostructures, photonic crystals, nanostructure crystals, nanostructure lattices in colloidal suspensions, natural nanocrystals, porous silicons etc. The last part is on nanomachines and nanodevices which contain information on molecular and supramolecular switches, nanoelectromechanical systems, microelectromechanical systems etc.
