It's Not About The Bike: My Journey Back to Life is an autobiographical novel by ace cyclist, Lance Armstrong.

    Summary of the Book

It's Not About The Bike: My Journey Back to Life is an inspirational and uplifting story of Lance Armstrong and his life as a sportsman, patient, father, and a transformed man. Lance Armstrong was the top cyclist in the world, having consecutively won the Tour de France. But he soon came to realize that life, and not the cycling track was going to be his biggest challenge. He was diagnosed with stage 3-testicular cancer in October, 1996 which had spread to his lungs, abdomen and his brain. With merely 40 percent chances of survival, it seemed that his good life would soon come to an end.

With the help and support of his family and friends, rigorous sessions of chemotherapy and surgery, Lance finally recovered. He decided it was important to return to the world of cycling, for him to be able to heal his ruptured body and soul. Thus, began his training sessions through the mountains of North Carolina. He decided to make a comeback and won the 1999 Tour de France. This book was published on May 22, 2000, shortly after his grand victory. The book provides an incisive look into the life of Lance Armstrong, from his childhood to the 1999 Tour, and the birth of his first child.

    About Lance Armstrong

Lance Edward Armstrong is an American former professional road racing cyclist. He was classified as having won the Tour de France, seven times consecutively between 1999 and 2005. He was later disqualified from all the races and banned from competitive cycling for life, for doping offenses. Lance Armstrong is a cancer survivor and is the Founder of the Livestrong Foundation. Other books by Lance Armstrong include Every Second Counts, Comeback 2.0: Up Close and Personal, The Lance Armstrong Performance Program: 7 Weeks to the Perfect Ride, and Lance Armstrong: Images of a Champion.

It's what you do, which makes you extra-ordinary

What if you are on the top of the hill of success, and suddenly someone pushes you down?

    That's what Lance Armstrong is,
A super successful biker, and suddenly one day his career seems to end because he is diagnosed with cancer.

The story is not about how Lance fought, but how an everyday person would react and go through in his toughest times.

It would let you decide that who your well wishers are,
It will let you realize what real struggle is,
And it will give you the importance of famil...

    Realizing human capacity

The book is an autobiographical account of Lance Armstrong, whose career path to become a cycling champion was shattered at the age of 25 when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He candidly describes his fight against cancer, the consequent loss of hope to race, small inspirations to comeback to track and then a punishing training schedule that culminate into seven consecutive wins at Tour de France (TdF). He speaks of a mix of deep harrowing experiences during his chemotherapy treatmen...

    Stuff of legends

Lance Armstrong's story is the stuff of legends. 'It's not about the bike' is a spectacular book describing the life of a man born with immense talent who had a tough childhood and was marred down by cancer but emerged as the greatest cyclist ever.
Lance was a rough teen, successful tri-athlete and an excellent son.
The narration is good and style, engaging. The story, described in breathtaking 290 pages, is truly inspiring.
Human relationships are described well and their importance revealed...

    An inspiring book

I picked up this book and couldn't put it down until I finished (I finished this book during my journey from New Delhi to Ahmedabad) . A great read, not about the bike, as the title states. It's about a strong, courageous and stubborn man who, although quite human and with many of the same weaknesses of the "ordinary" person, achieves that which only the "extraordinary" person can achieve. Well written, this book does a great job in taking the reader through the changes in Armstrong's life, a...

The Tour de France experience !!!

I had absolutely no idea on whom Lance was except that he is a great cyclist with a Tour de France title in his belt. However, this one book in itself proved to be a Tour de France experience for me.

The way he opens his life, right from his childhood, to the first peaks in career, days in bed and finally a remarkable comeback back to life gives you nearly the same pleasures of riding up and down the French Alps.

"Never Quit"... that's the die hard attitude to take away.

    I would rate this...

    Compelling !!

Unlike many others I had read this book much before Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer ... Lance's book is well written and is extremely uninhibited. He painstakingly takes us through the journey , and has left me emotionally drained after I finished the book ... His account narrates in details Lance's vulnerability at times while fighting the dreaded disease, and also his indomitable mental strength to cope with it ... and then gouing on to create history in Tour-de-France. He is honest and sp...

Exceptional is too small a word!!!!

This book is not about lance Armstrongs feat in cycling or his illness, it's about the power of oneself and the power that the human spirit has... An exceptional book...
It starts from his early days, giving us an account of his entire life, including instances which people refrain from discussing...

It's an example of expressing your thoughts freely...

    ONCE IN 100 YEARS !

This book has been written with a very very frank attitude.
The name says it all - MY JOURNEY BACK TO LIFE !!!

1)I got a Huge, Extraordinary, Inspiration from this LITTLE book.

2)The book has lucid language, nothing to worry about that.

3)Life is a game, you either PLAY or QUIT.but SON, YOU NEVER QUIT!

THIS IS THE MOST INSPIRATIONAL AND MOTIVATIONAL SENTENCE through out the book.

4)It's always GOOD to get back to LIFE;but it's always BETTER to be back at LIVING!
