Jaal: Book I of The Kaal Trilogy (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.164

Jaal is Sangeeta Bahadur’s debut novel and the first book in the Kaal Trilogy.

Summary of the Book

Jaal is the story of Arihant, a warrior with divine powers and his responsibility of annihilating Aushij, the Lord of Maya. Aushij is one of the four children of Adi Purush and Adi Shakti, who continues to create havoc in the real world. The book follows Arihant’s epic journey from innocence to experience as he harnesses his abilities to deal with his enemies. Armed with just a dagger and a staff, he faces his enemies with dexterity and ease. Jaal will make for an engaging and enthralling read for those interested in the Hindu story of creation, vedic philosophy and metaphysics.

Jaal: A book worth a thousand hours of reading!

Being an average reader, i know and have experienced the feeling of total lack of interest when one looks at a large novel. But with "Jaal" i was gladly mistaken from the very first few chapters when i reached that state of mind where the novel became a phenomenon. I'd say you could read on for hours and never get bored. But my personal feelings aside, here's what i have to say about the nitty-gritties of the novel.

1) ITS COMPACT:--Sabgeeta Bahadur is a master of her craft. Her language is fantastic and her speed of narration is almost perfect. There are no unneeded or prolonged...

But my personal feelings aside, here's what i have to say about the nitty-gritties of the novel.

1) ITS COMPACT:--Sabgeeta Bahadur is a master of her craft. Her language is fantastic and her speed of narration is almost perfect. There are no unneeded or prolonged descriptions and definitely no wasted time. The plot is quick, just like ythe Rahul, and is just as effective in cleaving through the mind and boredom of the reader.

2) THE LADY OF THE RINGS:--Its a fantastic achievement on the part of the author that she has not only created her own universe but has legitimised it with a map!! The continent of Hastipeet isn't, virtually, a creation; It is an all-new universe wityh its own well-marked territories. In this respect, Madam Bahadur is in the same line as Tolkien (though this is a crude comparison).

3) ASLI INDIAN:---The novel is strongly rooted in Vedic culture and tradition (as seen in its use of the idea of Maya etc) and its scenes are brought down to our own domestic and political settings.

Overall i'd say "Jaal" is a book worth buying and reading even if you're just that action-adventure-loving reader like myself.

too long with unncessary metaphors

the story is decent, but the book is way too long and as mentioned by someone in a review before, a drag at times.
good things
1. the story
bad things.
1. the language which i have to say is "bad english at times"
2. unnecessary metaphors where they are not needed.

the book could have been easily shortened down by around a 100-150 pages.

Jaal....Intruging...sometimes a drag

Though the pace of the book is good and the story comes up really well, I feel it is a little bit of a drag. The author could have easily cut down 100 pages.
Additionally, the style of writing for Vikruthi's character is distracting, as it becomes tough to comprehend (Between prose and poetry like writing).
