Jaal: Book I of The Kaal Trilogy

Being an average reader, i know and have experienced the feeling of total lack of interest when one looks at a large novel. But with "Jaal" i was gladly mistaken from the very first few chapters when i reached that state of mind where the novel became a phenomenon. I'd say you could read on for hours and never get bored. But my personal feelings aside, here's what i have to say about the nitty-gritties of the novel.

1) ITS COMPACT:--Sabgeeta Bahadur is a master of her craft. Her language is fantastic and her speed of narration is almost perfect. There are no unneeded or prolonged descriptions and definitely no wasted time. The plot is quick, just like ythe Rahul, and is just as effective in cleaving through the mind and boredom of the reader.

2) THE LADY OF THE RINGS:--Its a fantastic achievement on the part of the author that she has not only created her own universe but has legitimised it with a map!! The continent of Hastipeet isn't, virtually, a creation; It is an all-new universe wityh its own well-marked territories. In this respect, Madam Bahadur is in the same line as Tolkien (though this is a crude comparison).

3) ASLI INDIAN:---The novel is strongly rooted in Vedic culture and tradition (as seen in its use of the idea of Maya etc) and its scenes are brought down to our own domestic and political settings.

Overall i'd say "Jaal" is a book worth buying and reading even if you're just that action-adventure-loving reader like myself.

the story is decent, but the book is way too long and as mentioned by someone in a review before, a drag at times.

the book could have been easily shortened down by around a 100-150 pages.

Though the pace of the book is good and the story comes up really well, I feel it is a little bit of a drag. The author could have easily cut down 100 pages.
Additionally, the style of writing for Vikruthi's character is distracting, as it becomes tough to comprehend (Between prose and poetry like writing).

I bought this book and was not expecting much.
Just wanted to see a good Indian fantasy book.
and i was not disappointed.
