A great book!

Jane Eyre is really touching and heart warming. I seriously couldn't put it down and I even sobbed quite a bit as I read this book. Jane Eyre--if she were real--would be my biggest role model. But she still is. You have got to read this book! The fact that it was written long ago and doesn't have the "modern" style shouldn't stop you from reading it because you won't regret it.

A Classic

"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will."- This line completely summarises the protagonist of the book.
The story begins with the protagonist Jane, a 5 year old, an orphan living with her deceased uncle's family. The narrative deals with Jane's journey to find an identity, love and her deserved place in the world. What is remarkable about the book is the detailed understanding of the characters, especially the protagonist. Nowhere does it get sketchy. Despite her plainness, Jane cannot be ignored as an ordinary character. The strength of character

Never was a man in so much love as Edward Rochester was with Jane Eyre...this is how I like my romance to be..subtle, gentle and heart rending.....this touching and poignant tale will move you to tears and you will enevitably fall in love with Jane Eyre the simple poor girl with heart of gold.

Out of several movie versions of Jane Eyre I found the one starring Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine (breathtakingly beautiful) to be the best. They fit the role to a T... the gruff but honest master of the house and the timid but proud governess.

Needless to say "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte is my fav

Okay book...

The story is quite simple and sweet. This book is worth a one time read especially on a rainy day, snuggle up in a corner of your balconey and read.... :). However i am a bit dissapointed with the ending of the book. Mr. Rochester's condition in the end was not something that went well with me...

The narration is quite lengthy. Could have conveyed the same story without killing the feel in a fewer words. But yet again...since the book belongs to old times this can be excused..

Great Book

Norton Classics are a must if anyone wants to learn about the background of a novel, and the critique it has received over the time.

The Independent Woman & the Mad Woman in the Attic

When Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre she brought to the forefront an idependent thinking woman even though she did also bring to light the 'mad woman in the attic' a theme later taken up to show the actual position of women in the society.

Despite the fact that men try to rule and direct her behavior Jane manages to shift for herself and of course the famous lines: Reader I married him... were an epoch in literature.

Also, Bronte pleads a case for women to be above mere pudding making and embroidery as she asks their 'more priveledged fellow-creatures' to note that women too have a mind of

One of the Greatest Books

Jane Eyre was first published in the year 1847 when the world was so different but still feels fresh and is one of the greatest books to have ever been written. It took a writer of the caliber of Charlotte Bronte to seek a rightful place with love and respect for her protagonist Jane Eyre. This is a book that must be experienced by everyone and though many movies have been made they can not be compared to the joy of reading this great book. It advocated women to be treated equally as men and the message it gave is still relevant though more than 150 years have passed since its arrival.
