The Jarrett's

I dropped my Henry and ran for the back door. I went out and turned to my right. I had a colt in each hand. Just then three riders appeared. I was thumbing the hammers on each Colt as fast as I could. I saw flames coming out of the barrels of their guns. Then all of the sudden two saddles were empty. Then I felt something slam into my leg and felt myself falling, but I was still firing. I saw two holes appear in his chest and saw him falling backwards. Then I was just lying there. I knew I needed to reload, but I was just too tired. Then my mind cleared a little. I looked down, I could see a bullet hole under my ribs on the right side. There was another through my left thigh, and still another under my left shoulder. Feeling with my right hand I could feel where the one in my shoulder had come out under my arm. I heard Susan yelling to Opal that Sam was down. Then Adam yelling from the barn that Reese was down. I saw Gabe come riding up on his mule, then Susan come running out of the back door. Then everything went black.
