Whether it's core or advanced Java you're interested in this is the book to buy. The language is simple, user-friendly and very easy to grasp. Every Computer science student must buy this book. This book covers all basic concepts of java. Really great reference book for beginners.
This is Indian Edition. So very easy to understand. It has many example programs to have learning pleasure. Absolutely worth for money!
Cons:
It has very thin paper in bad quality

This book is good but too much in detail. Recommended only if you want to make a career in java. Else go in for books by balagurswami and tushar sambare. Those books are much simpler to understand. The level of COMPLETE REFERENCE is very high but if you are really interested in knowing everything about swings and stuff, it is the best buy
