The best retelling in recent times!!

I am an ardent fan of indian mythology and love exploring it numerous secrets. Devdutt has done an extraordinary work in this retelling. it hooks the readers in a way that other books fail to and i guess its because Devdutt has voiced out his opinions on the epic while still sticking heavily to the original script! a true masterpiece and a must read for all indians who crave to know our heritage!!

A Brilliantly Written Book

It is a fabulous piece of writing. The book narrates numerous sub stories which are generally ignored in most versions of Mahabharata. The book is unbiased and has a strong philosophical hold

Exceptional spiritual and enlightening experience

i have always been intrigued not only what is behind those hindu traditions we have but also why they r made like that. this retelling is not only repition of story but also conveys a larger perspective. It is beyond reverence of the characters but tries to bring the meaning and reasons. i liked the best part was explanation of who is brahmana. it is mind opening experience and also conveys that so many traditions hindu follow or do are no longer done with the same intentions s they were made...

Mahabharata in fast forward

Flipkart e-book reader is good to work with and the book came out nicely. Didn't feel uncomfortable reading as an e-book.
As for the book, it is like watching the whole Mahabharata in fast forward.
But the author has done good justice by bringing out the essence of the various side stories and the main to a good essence. His take on the Gita was also good.

Jaya Retelling of Mahabharat

Excellent book I would say.

1. Great insight to the incident described. Author has tried to pen view points of the character involved, their mindset and characteristics very well.

2. Along with traditional mahabharat story, this book include different version of same story which are part of local folklore, buddhism as well other parts of world where epic of mahabharat is sung.

3. Most important things author brought to the notice of reader was the end of book. Mahabharat where war and reas...

Simply an amazing rendition of the Mahabharata

The best thing about the book is that it does away with the usual, old style of story-telling. The narrative is backed with strong explanations and comparisons. All character, historical and place details are mentioned in a coherent manner. Also modern day relics, in the form of temples, dramas,folk-lore of the Mahabharata is also mentioned properly. I recommend this book for anyone who is always intrigued about the epic.

Jaya

Most of the stories are already known if you have read CR's mahabaratha or the original one. No surprises at all. Made boring reading after a while.
