Jinnah vs. Gandhi (English, Hardcover, Matthews Roderick)
Two faces on either sides of a border, both literally and figuratively, this is how one describes the relationship between Mohammad Ali Jinnahbhai Khojani and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Jinnah Vs. Gandhi takes readers through the relationship between the Fathers of Pakistan and India.
Summary of the Book
From a prophetic first meeting where Mohammad Ali Jinnah addressed him in fluent English to be replied to in chaste Gujarati, the relationship between Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and the Father of the Pakistani Nation has always been a fragile one. Both lawyers from families steeped in the Gujarati trading community of Kathiawar, Jinnah and Gandhi found differences in their opinions about almost everything. The non-cooperationist refused to cede to the staunch diplomat, culminating in Jinnah leaving the Congress where he began his political career to rejuvenate the Muslim League and begin his demand for a separate Muslim country. Throughout their chaotic relationship the two men never saw eye to eye and their differences formed the differences between the two nations they ultimately fathered.
