Jude The Obscure

In  Jude The Obscure, the author probes the puzzling paradoxes of love, sex and character. Jude, the poor country boy with visions of academic glory, remains trapped between passions and intellect until death; Arabella, a grossly sensual girl who appeals to the dreaming idealist in Jude; Sue, a curiously frigid girl who marries a school master, is carried off by Jude with whom she lives for years and comes back to him with the 'sin of  repentance' on her head. These, and other immortal characters, make up the dramatis personae of one of the most powerful novels of the end of the Industrial Revolution with its impact on the daily lives of ordinary people.
