This is a timeless album by Indian Ocean, and is a rare classic by any of the Indian fusion bands ever. I fondly remember buying 'Kandisa' first as an audio-cassette way back in June 2000. And when I played it, the sounds that came out simply blew away my mind! It was an experiment with guitars, tabla, and drums gone perfect! The rustic vocals of Rahul Ram weaved seamlessly into an intricate magic of some original, distinctive, and engaging music. Three of the compositions have stayed with me all over these years just as fresh as the day I listened to them for the first time: Ma Rewa, Hille Le, & Kandisa. 'Kandisa' - the song - is in Aramaic, the language that was spoken in by Jesus & his contemporaries. 'Ma Rewa' is a folk-song sung by the worshipers of River Narmada. 'Hille Le' is a adrenaline-laced song that sounds contemporary even today, in 2012 - a song about the power of the people that can overturn the governments!
This is an album that made them break into the public consciousness in the form of a giant wave! And it made them a legend that they are now. Sadly, Asheem Chakravarty is no more in this world now.
Indian Ocean's third album is a timeless classic, which overpowers every other reason to own this Audio CD. Unfortunate that there no more exists a discount, but its definitely worth every buck you spend.
The music engulfs a lot of elements yet stays grounded to its roots. If you are new to the Indian 'Rock scene', this is exactly where you should start from.
Asheem Chakravarty... amazing music. they just played an awesome concert at chennai on a beach while it was raining.. was pure melancholic ecstasy. wish they had played kandisa before the rain forced them to wrap up..
