Description

Katha Sagar is a DVD collection that contains cinematic renditions of a few timeless tales which have been penned by ingenious writers. A popular Indian drama television series that aired on DD National during the late 80s, Katha Sagar was directed primarily by Shyam Benegal and featured renditions of classic stories written by O. Henry, Leo Tolstoy, Rabindranath Tagore, Guy De Maupassant, Anton Chekhov and numerous other illustrious individuals. The cast included eminent actors such as Shammi Kapoor, Om Puri, Sharmila Tagore and Saeed Jaffrey.

A treasure trove of nostalgia

Remember the days of DD when Television was not an Idiot Box? When prime time viewing included wonderful anthologies like Katha Sagar that created intelligent and attractive adaptations of celebrated short stories from the great writers of the world.
Big Home Video ought to be saluted for their release of the Katha Sagar series on home video.
Given that these episodes were shot decades ago on video, the picture quality is quite acceptable and I am more than pleased to be able to watch these ...

Nostalgia revived !

Those who laments over the heydays of Doordarshan and miss it at the same time will be happy to see it here. It brings back those days alive with typical tones of late 80s. The packaging is great and compliments the shelves. The DVD itself packs all the episodes with all the infos associated nicely printed in the booklet.

My only setback was they didn't feature two of the distinctive stories of Maupassant (The Necklace) & O'Henry (The Gift of Magi). It otherwise deserved a 5 star ! But this ...

The bygone era of story telling!!

I bought this collection for my dad as his first birthday post retirement. He loved the collection. I remember my childhood when I used to watch this on DD - it made me fall in love with stories and books - a habit that still goes and keeps me sane.
It is a must have collection for anyone who watched Katha Sagar ever.
