The Complete Khaled Hosseini (Box Set) contains the two bestselling novels, The Kite Runner, and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Summary Of The Book
Khaled Hosseini, an Afghan-American doctor, shot to fame with the publication of his novel, The Kite Runner. He followed this with another bestseller, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Both novels are set in the troubled, conflict torn Afghanistan.
The Complete Khaled Hosseini (Box Set) contains both these books. One presents the story of a father and his son and their relationship, and the effect that the changing political scenarios in Afghanistan have on them.
The second novel covers the same period, but here, the story is told from the point of view of women. It is the women who suffered the most under the succeeding oppressive regimes in Afghanistan, and this story covers the story of women who are strong characters despite the circumstances that overwhelm them.
In The Kite Runner, Amir is the son of Baba, a wealthy businessman. Baba has a Hazara servant whose son, Hassan, is Amir's best friend. The Hazaras are a minority community in Afghanistan. Amir and Hassan share a close bond, and Baba too seems to have a special fondness for Hassan.
The crux of the story that changes the lives of the main characters occurs during one winter, during the kite running season. Boys fly kites whose strings are coated with glass. They try to cut off each others kites. During such a kite running event, Amir comes upon Hassan, who is being abused and humiliated by some boys, but fails to stand up for him and runs away. Haunted by his cowardice and his subsequent actions that end in Hassan and his father moving away, Amir tries to make up for it later in life.
In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam is the illegitimate daughter of a rich man. She loves her father, but on one occasion, he disappoints her and later this event leads to young Mariam being married off to a much older man named Rasheed. Rasheed turns abusive when Mariam suffers consecutive miscarriages.
Meanwhile, a young girl, Laila, lives in the same neighborhood as Mariam and Rasheed. Her brothers join the Mujahideen and are killed during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. She later loses her whole family to a bomb that lands on her house. Mariam and Rasheed take her in.
Rasheed later maries Laila. When Laila gives birth to a girl, Rasheed is disgusted and abuses both his wives, and the little girl.

Worth beyond what you pay.......If you want to get into the boundaries of Afghanistan, I am sure these two books will provide you the visas. Surely Khaled has mastered the art of blending life instances into social repercussions. The plot flows like a river hitting the right stones along with unexpected twists and turns without any interruptions. I assure that if you start with the first page of kite runner, you will surely end it with the last page of thousand splendid suns. The stage for drama is dry with blood and dirt but the characters are so lively that they will long last in your minds.

A Worthwhile readThese books by Khaled Hosseini truly capture one's emotional side. The way the stories have been told are truly worth appreciating. Of the two,The Kite Runner is more well told with the characters always being knitted into the plot. Although 'A thousand Splendid Suns' makes one feel out of line with the story a couple of times,it makes for a good read nonetheless. A good buy!

These are stories of lifeI cannot recommend anyone to buy this product from flipkart since I have never brought anything from them, but I will surely recommend to read these two books. These are two masterpieces from the writer. The stories flow flawlessly and you get very much engrossed while reading. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is even better than "The Kite Runner" and is indeed very much inspirational. If you think your life is miserable, well, you must read these books, the characters move on in life despite having to go through so much hardships. Hosseini is a great storyteller, these are among some of the best no… (Expand)
