Takes us back to the Child within...

A book that takes you back to the child lost somewhere beneath the mature and logical mind of an adult. Though it is set in a different atmosphere than mine, I could still connect with the innocent, fearless and exploring minds of Jem, Dill and Scout. It reminded me that as little people we imagined weird stories about people in neighbourhood, how strange the complicated customs of grown-ups seemed and the beauty of summers spent in shades of adventures which at times crossed all limits. The best part about "How to kill a Mocking Bird" is the narration, world through Scout's eyes made me a child again. The beauty of a book doesn't just lie in its plot or shockers, but the way readers see it and scout's child mind is absolute fun. Missing a classic is never an option; neither for an avid reader nor for a Newbie.

Good but hard to relate being an Indian

The book is beautifully written bye Harper Lee.

It's a fast read - one incident takes place after another and it keeps you glued to itself.
But being an Indian, it was hard for me to relate to any of the characters. Undoubtedly this is a good book, but there were somethings I couldn't really understand as I don't know anything about the American history.

Well I recommend this book to readers but you may find it difficult to understand somethings like when they talk about their history as in about Pre-war Alabama and related stuff!!!

Wow!

This book was recommended to me by my girlfriend, and I didn't really get into reading this, but finally did.

This book is marvellously lucid yet profound. It portrays such complex human emotions, and constantly reminds you that children are far more greater than adult beings.

The story flows along beautifully, and such a strong story line, made me immersed into the book really quick.

The picture painted by Harper Lee is such a detailed, and colorful image, that it is hard not to aspire for such a colorful imagination.

All in all, a spectacular illustration of complex issues.

To Kill A Mockingbird

Harper Lee tells a story that deals with delicate issues like racism, oppression and injustice through the eyes of a six year old child, complete with the endearing southern accent and conservative ways of living in the 1930's. Lee's simplistic writing skills that draw the readers sympathy towards the events that happened in the book, without being preachy, makes it a must read american classic in its own right.

a beautiful story

This is one of the best books I ever read. Story is simple but you just love it.. it is written so beautifully.

English used in the book is a bit difficult.. and you have to lookup to the dictionary almost every page. But still you enjoy it...a must read

Also, There is a movie adaptation of this book. I watched it after reading the book and just loved the characters.. specially -Jem and Scout !!

Pulitzer Prize winner

Lee's ability to narrate the complexities by simply hiding them is a genre of its own.

I'm mostly amazed by her telling of childish perceptions in adult predicaments. The

beautiful southern life, the racial prejudices (prevailed in the deep south) of the

time makes this book an entirely standalone trait. This work of fiction is one of a

kind, very unique. - Rojikanta

One of my Favourites

This book is one of my favourites an can be called one of the classics of the 20th century.....a very sweet and touching story with the theme of apartheid well dealt and expressed. it is a must read and one to be treasured.
the characters are very endearing, especially that of the children and the simple everyday lives of the people of that decade when it was written.

Bestest!

If you ask me for my fav book I would name this one. There are many that I like but this is best of the best.
The relationship between Scout and Atticus is so endearing. The adventures, idle games and pretend plays of Scout and her brother take me back to the days which I always cherish.
