    Flipkart Official Review

This is probably the only Indian travelogue of the Himalayas, which I loved reading. Gaurav Punj does not give you the Himalayas like you would have expected or read of or seen. He just gives you his version – plain and simple and no frills attached.

“The Land of Flying Lamas” is a charming book – the sort that also is capable of calming the reader to a large extent. It is wistful and I felt I was there, in the mountains, sharing stories with people around me and sipping my cup of tea. Punj speaks of treks, and the life in neighbouring areas. A book that will satisfy the soul for sure.

The Land of Flying Lamas & Other Real Travel Stories from the Indian Himalaya is a book which talks about the beauty of the Himalayan range of mountains and describes it as a place that is so magical that you might just see flying Lamas.

    Summary of the Book

Everyone knows of the beauty of the Himalayas, but not many have actually been there to witness it. The book comes to explain that beyond the Himalayas that is known to most people is a place which has beautiful green meadows, streams flowing with bubbly water and pretty flowers in bloom. This is the part of the great mountains that hasn't been taken over by tourism. The book is a compilation of short stories of people who have experienced the real Himalayas and have shared their stories - it is a call for those of us who wish to travel and to find ourselves. A chapter by one of India's Top Fitness Professionals, Rujuta Diwekar, on why one has to trek and what effects trekking has on the body completes the book.

    About the Author

Gaurav Punj is the author of this book and the creator of CWH (Connect With Himalaya). It is a forum that promotes tourism in the lesser known parts of the Himalayas which are waiting to be explored.

    The Land of Flying Lamas

Very well written and gives a feel of being there. Took me to the Himalayas with me sitting comfortably in my armchair. Inspiring. Only issue is that I have to do some homework to find how to get to the places mentioned which is fair enough since the author states that this is not the usual travel book.

Gaurav has captured the local nuances , the culture , the natural setting so well in the book that you will simly love it ! His stories are genuine. He is like a friend talking to you about the awesome places in the Indian Hmalayas. He talks about places which are off the beaten track, and beautifully captures the local community's daily joys and struggles in the hills.

Simple and straight from the heart !

When I picked up your book, my natural instinct was to read Spiti and Rupin Sipin chapters after reading the introduction – brought back a flood of memories – the first day campsite at Mulling , the never reaching Pin Bhaba peak, walking (slipping)through the glacier, the green peas of Spiti, visiting the monasteries ,the hailstorm before the trek to Baradsar, the view as the sky cleared the morning after, walking through the Rhododendrons , – almost felt that I was reliving so many parts of ...

Judge this one by its cover !

Gaurav Punj describes the grandeur of the Indian Himalaya with such nicety and enthusiasm; the book makes you want to go to the mountains right away.

With the treks, he narrates some history and culture as well. His portrayal of the treks, situations and people is engrossing and it is easy to visualize oneself up there. All through the book you almost imagine the mountains luring you to their splendour!

As much as Punj suggests his readers to travel and trek the Himalaya less traveled, he ...

    Good book though expensive

The book is nice read and will literally take you to places. However, when compared with the price of the book one feels he deserved some more for the hefty price he has paid.
