In the year 2036, Lawson Davis, a brilliant and reclusive research scientist, is sent on a mission to distant 16 Cygni B2, the first Earthlike planet discovered outside our solar system. While conducting his research, Lawson accidentally makes first contact with an alien abandoned on the planet by his enemies and left to die. Lawson rescues and befriends the alien, and with the help of ANDA, an immensely powerful artificial intelligence, he learns that the alien Albo is the young heir to the planetary government of his home planet, Ullo. Together, Lawson, Albo, and ANDA travel back to Ullo, where Lawson and ANDA help uncover the plot to kill Albo - a plot devised and executed by the highest-ranking member of the Ullonian Security Authority. Lawson soon finds himself at the very center of a brutal conspiracy that is poised to bring down Albo's government, and expand to a newly discovered colony world - Earth Will man's first contact with an alien species also be his last?
