Thaku has postgraduate degrees in Mathematics, Education and Operations Research. He has been teaching at the secondary and senior secondary school level for more than a decade. At present, he is the director of the National Vedic Maths Academy, which is a branch of the All India Ramanujan Maths Club. Thakur has trained over 40,000 students, and conducted more than 180 seminars across the country, in order to popularize and promote Vedic Maths. He also gives talks at the National Level Maths Quiz Show, as well as on All India Radio. Many of his poems have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. He was awarded the 2010 National Best Teacher Award by AIRMC.
