Summary of the Book
Harish is an aimless rover who is stopped by a threatened tribal community called Jarawa in the Islands of Andaman and its rain forests. While Jawara tribe is fighting for its survival, Harish feels a moral responsibility of helping them in their fight. His conscious would not let him leave or watch the injustice quietly. He meets uncle Pame, who eventually becomes his partner and friend. Pame is a 70 year-old Karen boatman whose father was brought from Burma to the Islands by the British in the year 1920s. Harish next unknown and unexpected encounter is Seema, a young passionate lady. Unlike other educated youth of the local bor descendants, she has not fled the land and is a part of the same fight. She is drawn towards Harish’s concern and selfless love for the Islands and his thorough understanding of the Jarawa tribe. She had once lost the person she loved the most and Harish seems to be the person who could make all the pain go away. With all these parallel yet, eerily interconnected stories, the December 2004 Tsunami hits the Islands! Find out what happens next in this intense and moving tale.
About Pankaj Sekhsaria
Pankaj Sekhsaria is an Indian writer and author. He has been associated with the environment action group called Kalpavriksh from the past 12 years. He is extremely concerned about the issues that still persist in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and engages himself through his extensive research, legal intervention, advocacy and networking. He completed his masters in mass Communication at Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and is currently enrolled for a PhD in Science, Technology and Social Studies with the Maastricht University, Netherlands.
