Leaving No Child Behind

New York City. The largest school district in the United States of America. An overwhelming sea of humanity. People of all cultures, races, creeds, and ethnicities come together in these five boroughs. Some have come to pursue the American dream, some are simply struggling to survive. But, the reality is, the over 1.1 million students who walk through the doors of the New York City public schools every morning are not so different from others all across the nation. This is the story of my first year teaching in New York City. Far away from the bright lights of Broadway in Manhattan, I rolled up my sleeves and began to work in the Bronx. These are my experiences and these children are our future.
