Description

Written in the form of letters from a fictional mother to her baby, Letters to my Baby is a week-by-week guide to pregnancy and the first year of a baby’s life. It is a book written by a mother for other mothers.

Anjali, the baby in this book, can be anybody’s baby. Her mother Sujata is not a super mom who effortlessly lulls her baby to sleep by singing a famous lullaby, but a mother who at times is distraught that her little one kept her up all night. She is not a perfect mother. We see her making mistakes, we watch her cope and we clap with her as Anjali reaches her first birthday.

The book not only deals with issues like morning sickness, stretch marks, bonding and producing enough breast milk, but also answers questions like - why birthdays are celebrated with a cake or why girls are dressed in pink and boys in blue.

Letters to my Baby is a missive from a mother who has been there and is now offering help and support to other women embarking on the same voyage.

About the Author
Sangeeta Bhargava
was born in a remote village in Maharashtra in India and spent much of her childhood in the hill stations of Kumaon (now part of Uttarakhand). She graduated from Lucknow, which has been vibrantly brought to life in her debut novel, The World Beyond. It is soon going to be translated into Polish. Although she wanted to be a writer even as a child, writing was not a career option back then, so she went on to do an MBA in finance. A few years back she realised that the business world was not for her and decided to go back to her first love - writing. She wrote some short stories, including the prize-winning story See You Online, as well as articles, before publishing her first book, Letters to my Baby. This book is a guide to pregnancy and babycare and has been serialised in a Canadian biweekly. After the Storm is her third book. She now lives in London with her husband, two children, 10,000 books and a temperamental laptop.

Wonderful pregnancy book

I came across this gem of a book whilst browsing for pregnancy books (I am expecting my first child). Its different from the well recommended pregnancy tomes in that its written from the perspective of the mother to be in the form of weekly letters to her unborn child. After each letter there's a useful space for your own notes plus very straightforward info relating to the subject of each letter. It takes you up to baby's first birthday. It covers the emotional and physical aspects of pregna...

Excellent reading

I have read sangeeta's books and this was among the first one I read. Its easy read and told in letters style and being a mother I could relate to the story which was told about pregnancy and child birth. I enjoyed reading so much that despite being mother of two I wanted to have another baby. A must read for every woman who wants to concieve and understand the preganancy and child birth in a simple way.
