Design
The LG Optimus One sports a soft-touch plastic body with thin metallic trims and a chrome like bezel. Below the capacitive touchscreen are the standard Android buttons, Menu, Home, Back and Search. LG has separated out the often used Home and Menu buttons and clubbed them together for faster navigation. The Optimus P500 packs an accelerometer for auto-orientation and a proximity sensor for auto-display turn-off.Storage and Battery
A 1500 mAh battery powers the Optimus P500, and gives 8 hrs of talk time on 2G and 7 hrs on 3G networks. There is a standard micro-USB port on the base of the phone and a 3.5 mm port on the top spine.
LG has left the Android UI untouched for most part, except for a few minor cosmetic skinning. The sole major change is that the downloaded apps get added to a separate section in the menu. Also included is a row of shortcuts on the top of the notifications bar that allows for easy toggling of wireless radios. The LG App Advisor is preloaded on the Optimus One, its a useful software that sifts through millions of apps from the Android Market and gives you relevant recommendations.

I have been playing with the phone for two days now... and I'm impressed. LG did a good job with the P500. There are the minor annoyances but the whole experience has been great. Have tried over 30 apps and with the exception of a couple, all the others have worked great so far.
For users of the older Symbian or Sony Ericsson systems, the Android experience may be a significant change at first, especially when it comes to stuff like making and taking calls, sending messages and so on, but once you get used to it, it's smooth.
The Good:
Sensitive and tactile touchscreen
Good display quality and bright screen
Some neat apps thrown in
The audio is good on earphones(and a good pair of bundled earphones too!)
The Bad:
- Phone is a little on the slower side and this becomes especially clear when you've got a number of apps installed
- Useless and sometimes annoying apps come bundled with the phone and they cannot be easily removed
- The speaker could have been louder. Also it's not possible to hear the phone ringing even with a loud ringtone while in traffic
- Poor native support for some popular media formats like m4a
- No hot swapping of apps. You can't put the current app on standby to quickly switch to another app
The Others:
# Android 2.2
# Decent battery backup. Not really awesome, but held for a day with a few hours each of music, Wi-Fi and GPS thrown in.
# The charging is also decently fast when you use the adapter
# Not really a looker
# The screen is(obviously) a fingerprint magnet
# No media keys, the lock button is rolled into the off, no clear key but I wouldn't exactly call them negative points. Some may see this as a good thing, and some bad.
# Typing with the phone held in landscape mode with the earphone jack plugged in might be a pain, depending upon how you naturally position your hands for typing
Verdict:
It may look like the cons outweigh the pros, but once you start using it you'll probably not notice these nags too often, so don't get bogged down by them. For the price, the P500 is a good value phone.
Overall: 8/10
...you have to brace yourself for the laggard performance. The phone cannot keep up with the processing power that most current apps require. For example, playing Angry Birds on this phone can be a frustrating experience. The phone just cannot handle it, and will sometimes proceed frame by frame, 2 frames per second or thereabout. The same game is rendered so fantastically in phones with a better processor, for example, the Nexus One and the iPhone 3GS (the reviewer has tried the game in all three phones). Another app tested was the Talking TomCat (available both in the iOS and Android platforms). The time that the O1 required to respond, for most user inputs, tends to be more than that required by the other phones. You'll not notice any lag whatsoever in the phones with higher-specs. So, basically, it's a nice phone, and is a steal at the price, only if you're willing to bear with the low performance. And if you're more into gaming, this phone is going to disappoint you. I don't think any software update can overcome the hardware limitations. Thanks for reading.
Best Feature : Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will be available soon, which no phone in this category is/is promising to offer
I ll take the specifications one by one
Display : HVGA crisp display
Looks : Very elegant.simple and elite
OS : Android 2.2
Processor:600 MHZ
RAM:512 MB..Thats a real steal at this price..phones in the range of 20-30k are offering this RAM..and believe me..Android works real smooth with 512..256 isn't very smooth...
Sound quality(the music sound):Not that great in Loudspeaker. But in earphones its awesome
Reception is awesome..the voice is clear even in areas with low network coverage
Can be used as Wi fi Hot spot
Comes with a one year theft insurance
It's been a week I am using this one and totally satisfied.
I wud surely recommend you to go for this phone!!
After using O1 for 1 month this is my opinion.
1.Great Value for money at this price range as compared to other phones.
2.The display is much better 480x320 (dont go for LG ME or wildfire or pop or FIT their screen sucks)so great view.
3.camera is ok the pics are not as good. please check sample pics on the internet to see if it suits you. I can successfully photograph handwritten notes using the O1 camera. thats all i need :)
4. i dont have dust problem (manufactured in March'11). so try getting the latest built model for that.
5. angry bird lags sometimes. other games are great. the accelerometer based games also work great :) love them.
6. battery last 2 days with normal use.
7. earphones not great . i miss my walkman ph Bass :(
the phone is good inspite of its pros and cons.
Some people talk of using Cyanogen/Rooting their phone. remember that doing this will VOID ur warranty. So do it only if you know the consequences.
I got my LG Optimus 1 about 45 days back and i have been thoroughly enjoying myself since then. I had a budget of around Rs.10000/- and I considered the following along with the Optimus 1
1. Samsung Galaxy Fit
2. HTC Wildfire
I was almost instantly against both of them when I checked them out live because of their low display resolution and colours were not good at all. Whereas the Optimus 1’s resolution really pleased me.
Ill try to take up the points 1 by 1
Build Quality - The Optimus 1 has great build quality, it feels very solid in the hands and u feel good quality plastics used. (as opposed to the Samsung Galaxy phones according to me)
Resolution – It has a wonderful 320x480 resolution with 180 ppi which looks really nice and the the colours produced are wonderful
Camera – The pictures taken from the 3.2MP cam are generally acceptable with decent shooting mode choices with which u can play around. But an LED Flash is missed
Memory - The internal memory ( 170MB) is low according to me as there are many apps which cannot be transferred to the microSD card and have to be kept in the fone memory.
But 512MB of RAM is great job done by LG
Battery - It has a Big 1500ma battery which easily gives me at least one and a half days of moderate phone use (some internet browsing, some media, texting, calling etc) which is really good
OS - I really like the operating system and this one is even upgradable to 2.3 gingerbread. Most of the application work nicely but the system lags working on some applications probably owing to only 600MHz of processing power (that’s what u get in 10000 bucks)
It has stock android OS with no customizations by LG
Texting – texting is fairly accurate and the LG keyboard is great. I prefer to keep the traditional alphanumeric keyboard in the portrait mode with T9 dictionary on which gives u amazing typing speeds
Hardware Buttons – The Optimus 1 has the uniqueness of having proper hardware buttons at the bottom of the screen rather than the more common soft buttons with heptic feedback. I find it so much better than the soft buttons as there is 0 chance of accidental presses which is a common irritant in the soft buttons case.
Another added advantage of the hardware buttons is that u can press any of them and the unlock screen will come to life which in other cases happens only by pressing the dedicated lock button, I practically found this aspect very useful and convenient.
Touch – Its capacitive touch is not very sensitive but decent. I personally think that is a good thing to avoid accidental presses.
Processor – The lesser processing power frequently leads to a laggard performance but is generally quite unnoticeable and does not bother much
Call experience – The call experience is so far only decent. The microphone seems good but the speaker could have been better as many times the caller’s voice is not crisp and clear so 1 really has to listen carefully(I dunno whether it’s the phone’s prob or the network’s or the other party’s phone’s :P)
I have also experienced some dropped calls and again I don’t know whether to attribute it to the phone or the network. Overall its OK
Competition as of now – now there is the HTC explorer which will be hitting the markets soon and the galaxy Y which is a great return on investment at around Rs.7000/- on flipkart(as of this date) , and these may obstruct Optimus 1’s continued successful march.
The pros definitely do outweigh the cons here. All in all ill say im REALLY HAPPY :D with my phone and truly think I made the WISE decision
If you have 10k bucks in the pocket and looking for a good android, look no more, the LG Optimus has heard you ;)
