An overdose of fantasy for my taste. The book turns essay-like at various junctures because of its descriptive narrative. Yann Martel deserves admiration for flying marvelously on the wings of imagination. I'm curious to watch the movie and will do so shortly.
I have read book after watching movie .
It is really worth reading .
The life in 227 days PI had passed on boat with Richard parket surrounded by ocean water is awsome.
This is a story of a castaway adrift in the Pacific Ocean, in the company of a tiger. Plot wise, it doesn’t seem to offer much in terms of the potential for a gripping narrative. But a gripping narrative it indeed is. The castaway’s survival strategies and his resourcefulness make for absorbing reading. But it is much more than that. Through the eyes of the castaway, the book looks at the universal themes of despair, hope, belief, courage, a sense of purpose, the will to survive. It is about all this as much as about survival itself. The narrative may strike some readers also as an allegory for life’s journey, and the challenges, adventures and joys along the way. At another level, it can be interpreted in psychological terms. Then it can be seen as a way of dealing with loneliness, of invoking childhood and re-living family ties..
Yann Martel is pretty darn good. The way he narrates the story is well and neat. I enjoyed the book very much and to be frank I thought myself as the protagonist in some areas of the story.
the story line is TOO GOOD.
I can assure you 'll have a good time reading this bok
HATSOFF YANN MARTEL
Well, this is the best edition of this book .. from my view.
I truly recommend for this one edition.
And if you are thinking about the story ...
then stop thinking ... it will tell you a truth of life , universe ............
go for it frnd :)
Its CRAP. The story does not move from the beginning till the end. The first part of the book my be taken as a text for a 6 years kid with chapters like Swimming, Zoo, Religion etc.
There are many reasons why one should NOT READ this book:
- Its completely draggy.
- Everyone might feel empathy for a person who was trapped by such a tragedy. But that does not entail that he feels same gratitude listening to his daily routine, diet etc. compelled in such tragic state.
I already had a copy of this book. But, I ordered one more for my uncle from Flipkart. It is a good edition of the book. You should definitely read it if you liked the movie. And if you haven't, it still makes a good read. Give it a try.
A good starting but became boring at the middle. Well I think Yann Martel stretched it too much. It had a nice starting with some funny lines and some scary. Got fed up with the sea towards the end but somehow finished it. All in all, it's a book for a patient person. I have read much thicker books but it just got stuck in the middle on the part at which Pi got stuck in the middle of the Ocean. It started to lose its flow.
I had bought “Life Of Pi” way back in 2010 seeing that it has won the prestigious Man Booker Prize but the other books in my stock kept me busy. One day when I visited a mall, I saw movie posters of the same book which said, “One Boy, One Boat, One Tiger…” and it was that line and hype that compelled me give this book a priority.
“Life Of Pi” is a fable of a Tamil boy named ‘Pi”. His father owns a zoo in Pondicherry (India) but due to some happenstance their family decides to migrate to Canada. Many birds and animals of their zoo also travel with them on the same ship. During the voyage, a nocturnal hurricane gain supremacy over the ship and leave Pi as the only human survivor. He finds himself on a life boat with a hyena, a zebra (with one leg broken), a female Orang-utan and 450 Pound Bengal tiger named, Richard Parker. The rest of the pages of the book tells about the struggle and adventure, hunger and hope, loneliness and belief & defeat and determination. Pi, who explores the deep affairs of sprituality in his early age helps him in his exertion and endeavor.
I really loved the book as the book circumnavigates around elements like desire, belief, motivation, hope, expectation, determination, God, nature, invisible forces etc. Some people say that the the ending was not good but according to me, it was fine. I completed the book in 3 days. I rate it 4/5.
this book taught gr8 many things : family values, courage in the worst possible time, true friendship, and many other things.....makes u believe that theres something called God in the universe....i suggest it to each and every book-addict and book lovers....
