Life, The Universe & Every Thing Douglas Adams

Started as a science fiction radio comedy for BBC, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a five books trilogy. The third book Life, The Universe & Every Thing begins where the second book The Restaurant at the End of the Universe ends. The protagonist, Arthur Dent, an accidental space traveller lands is stranded in prehistoric earth. An old friend Ford Prefect who has been living on another planet, takes him on a space-time journey which ends in future time England where the world is at the brink of war. The humorous story takes the readers through the actions of the two heroes in this crucial time. The Hitchhiker’s Guide series became widely popular, was soon adapted into other formats and became an international multi-media phenomenon. It got converted into a TV series, three part comic book, and a computer game. The books remain the most widely distributed form and have so far been converted into 30 languages.      

Douglas Adams was born in 1952 in England. He is known as a humorist, writer, and dramatist. After graduation with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, Adams began his career as a writer for TV and Radio shows. He was inducted in The Radio Academy's Hall of Fame for his contribution to UK Radio. After the success of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, he was made the radio producer of BBC. He was also known for his contribution to the environment and its conservation through his campaigns for the protection of endangered species. He described himself as a radical atheist reflecting this thought in his writings as well. At the age of 49, Adams succumbed to a heart attack. Few of his other works include, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which is a ghost horror detective comedy series,The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul and a radio program called Doctor Who.
