Description

Biochemistry by Richard A. Harvey and Denise R. Ferrier is an essential, illustrated resource on the subject of Biochemistry.

Summary Of The Book

Biochemistry is a branch in science that examines the underlying chemical processes within a living organism. Biochemistry is a fully illustrated text which will aid students to review, integrate, and assimilate many of the complex areas of this field. This text is an ideal preparation tool for coursework and examinations.

The text has several salient features. The material is presented in an outline format, which makes revisions more concise and aids in foundational learning. Each chapter contains summaries and overviews, which will reinforce study time. All the illustrations are in full colour and contain annotations. This provides students with a visual explanation of the vast array of biochemical processes within the human body. The text also provides cross reference material to other subject areas within the series. Students can find over 100 questions in the book which will give them a thorough review. In order to expose students to real world scenarios, the authors have included “clinical boxes” which associates key concepts with actual situations. As an added bonus, the authors have included free access to an online exam and online resources. This exam contains 450 additional questions, with searchable text.

The contents of the text are contained within 33 chapters, which are divided into 6 units. Students will learn about various biochemical topics such as Protein Structure and Function, Intermediary Metabolism, Lipid Metabolism, Nitrogen Metabolism, Integration of Metabolism, and Expressing and Storing Genetic Information. Within these broader areas, students will gain an appreciation for the role that biochemistry plays in Glycolysis, Enzymes, Amino Acids, Cholesterol and Steroid Metabolism, Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, Cholesterol, Human Disease, Protein Synthesis, Nutrition, and Fat/Lipid Metabolism.

Biochemistry was published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins in 2010.
