Little Bluestem: Strories From Rural America

Little Bluestem is a vigorous, drought-resistant native bunchgrass. It is well known in the Great Plains and in other places in America's heartland where it frequently is found with other prairie grasses. Most of the people in Brian E. Backstrand's first collection of stories, Little Bluestem would know this hardy plant by sight. They would see it surviving in the ditches and volunteering on the hardscrabble places of the rural landscapes in which they live. They would understand it to be an ordinary grass which persists and endures.
