The Lord of the Rings Box Set (Paperback) Price: Rs.819

The Lord Of The Rings (Set Of 3 Titles) is a collection of all the three books in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic trilogy about Sauron, a Dark Lord, and his quest of a magical, all-powerful ring.

Summary Of the Book

The Lord Of The Rings (Set Of 3 Titles) is a set of the three titles in Tolkien’s bestselling high fantasy series. The novel is divided into a total of three volumes, spanning six books, two per volume.

The novel is set in a fictional universe called middle-earth. A Dark Lord named Sauron harbors the ambition to conquer and reign over all of middle-earth. He creates a powerful ring called the One Ring to control the Rings Of Power, several magical rings created under Sauron’s guidance. Sauron is the main antagonist in the novel, and the titular character of the series as well.

In The Hobbit, the prequel to The Lord Of The Rings, the One Ring leaves Sauron’s hand. The Lord Of The Rings covers Sauron’s quest to reclaim the One Ring coupled with the continued efforts of the West to foil his ambitious plans.

The first volume is titled The Fellowship Of The Ring. It begins at Bag End with the birthday celebrations of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo leaves all his possessions to Frodo, his adopted heir. Frodo eventually learns that the ring he received as part of his legacy is actually the powerful One ring belonging to Sauron. On the advice of a wizard named Gandalf, Frodo sets out on a mission to ensure the safety of the ring. Several hobbits, dwarves, wizards, and elves join hands to keep the ring from falling into Sauron’s hands.

The second volume, The Two Towers, focuses on the betrayal of a wizard named Saruman, who switches to the Dark side and pledges his allegiance to Sauron. Subsequently, Frodo travels east with the ring, and unwittingly walks into danger.

In the third and final volume, The Return Of The King, the journey of the ring culminates in a decisive showdown that could result in the victory of good over evil, or it could backfire and the dark forces could end up conquering all. This volume contains many appendices that provide a wealth of background information on the story.

The Lord Of The Rings was first released in 1954. With sales of over 150 million copies, it is the third best-selling novel ever. It has been translated into numerous languages and has also been reprinted several times over. Its film, theater, and radio adaptations have won numerous awards. The book continues to form the basis of a variety of ancillary products in the form of video games, artwork, music, and more.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are a must for high fantasy fans.

JRR Tolken is undoubtedly the greatest high fantasy author. The world that he creates is immersive and interesting and it is also fun. I cant imagine that this whole world came out of one man's brain. Having read all the three books (3 times)I should say that these are more amazing than the LOTR trilogy movies that are based on them.
To be honest I was never a fan of epic novels or movies. I have come across these books after I saw the first LOTR movie (which was a life changing experience). I started to like the epic genre and fantasy is now my favorite genre in books. These are books that have to be owned and can be cherished for years. I have purchased the Harpercollins version of the trilogy (to replace my older duplicate LOTR collection :D)and its available for just Rs 640 which is a steal... So all I can say is: Go get it!! lol.

Finally a word about the amazing service by Flipkart. I have purchased so many items from you guys (DVDs, games and books) and I must confess this has been my best experience with an online retailer. I am very picky about where I buy and I used to buy the books mostly from landmarkonline previously but the prices here are cheaper than in their site. As of today my shelf is full of all the books that I bought for heavy discount from you guys. Delivery has never taken more than 3 days which is impeccable. I love Flipkart and I hope you guys continue to provide the great service and I will surely continue purchasing the items from you guys!! :)

Absolutely Mind blowing!!

First of all kudos to flipkart for delivering these books in time and in perfect condition!!

Lord of the rings is a masterpiece by J.R.R.Tolkein. He has created an amazing world of his own comprising characters from different races. Dwelving into the world of men, hobbits, elves, wizards and many other amazing creatures one can experience their quests, adventures and wars. The sequence of the plot, narration and flow of language keeps the reader constantly on his toes.

On the phyiscal quality and condition of the book-

Pros-
1. Good font size and type. Doesnt strain the eyes of the reader.
2. Page nos begin in book 1 and end in book 3, i.e continuity is maintained.
3. Maps are present in all 3 books for the ready reference of the reader.

Cons-
1. Maps size is a bit small and the reader may have to strain his eyes looking for smaller details.

Nonetheless a steal at the price at which it is being sold by flipkart!!

My Personal View

Assuming that i have not heard how great and amazing this book is , i would still say that this book is great. To be honest i find it even more nice after watching the movies, but oviously thats now how a book should be read.If u like harry potter u will like this ( on the basis of imagination.)However these 3 books are better written than harry potter.

IF IMAGINATION IS YOUR CUP OF TEA , YOU WILL BUY THIS!!!

Does this book even need a review??

Wow!! First of all... this is the third LOTR which Im buying.. The previous two ... the first is my Dad's prized possession.. The second one .. I forgot it at home.. and few days back, I had the craving to reread the Lord of the Rings, and hence, here I am.. this is me.. shelled out around 880 bucks to buy this Box set.. and its TOTALLY WORTH EVERY RUPEE I SPENT!!

The creation of Middle Earth... The characters.. The description.. The history.. the One ring.. the elves.. the dwarves.. the men.. and well, THE HOBBITS and..... GANDALF!!! Everytime I read the book, I wonder if the movie could have done justice to it... But, nonetheless... Those who are reading and review and wondering if u should shell out your/your dads'/your boyfriends'/your husbands'/your wife's hard earned money, STOP THINKING AND ORDER it!!

The London Sunday Times stated that the world would forever more be divided into two types of people: "those who have read The Lord of The Rings and those who are going to." Welcome to the other side :)

Word for Word a True Delight

What is there not to like of J.R.R. Tokien books? It is lots of fun, plenty of adventure, action, battles, humor, hobbits, men, elves, dwarves, et., etc., etc.
Book two of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Two Towers", ends with Gandalf the Wizard and Pippin the hobbit traveling to Minas Tirith. Also Frodo the Ring-bearing hobbit and his faithful friend, Sam, are separated in the land of Mordor, Frodo in the hands of the dreadful orcs.

Now we go into book three, "The Return of the King". It's up to Sam now to save his master Frodo. It's a good thing he has the Ring of Doom with him. When Sam finally is able to free Frodo, they must continue their quest to destroy the Ring, before the evil Sauron uses it to his own purposes, to cover all the lands with his Darkness. But Frodo is starting to weaken with the weight and power of the Ring. Will he be able to complete his quest? Meanwhile, King Theoden and his Rohan forces, along with Merry the hobbit, travel to Minas Tirith to help King Denethor fight off Sauron's forces of Men and Orcs. And Aragorn the Ranger (or is he...?), Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, and the Rangers decide to go to Minas Tirith... by the Paths of Dead!

A truly great conclustion to such a terrific series. J.R.R. Tolkien certainly made these books so interesting and realistic. You must read the Appendixes at the end of the book, it tells about all of the histories of Men, Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits, and more. Also gives timelines of the 2nd Age, 3rd Age, and more.

One of my most favorite characters is Legolas the Elf, one important reason is because he is an Elf. Somehow Elves have always fascinated and interested me, with their mysterious, quiet but strong ways. I love how he and Gimli the Dwarf are the best of friends and how they're always together and inseparable. I also love Pippin the Hobbit, he's so cheerful, kind, but always seems to always get into trouble! Also I think that Faramir the Prince is also a good character. Son of the King Denethor, in the eyes of his father is unworthy because he is compared with his brother, Boromir, who had been killed.

I can't honestly say which of the three books in the trilogy is the best. I strongly recommend you read all of the books, including the prelude, "The Hobbit". I think that the J.R.R. Tolkiens are mostly for teenager and adults, since younger kids probably would find it a little too complicated and boring for them. Have fun reading "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy! You'll find it loads of fun and keep you in page-turning excitement!
