Lord of the Rings (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.751

The Lord Of The Rings (Set Of 3 Titles) is a collection of all the three books in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic trilogy about Sauron, a Dark Lord, and his quest of a magical, all-powerful ring.

Summary Of the Book

The Lord Of The Rings (Set Of 3 Titles) is a set of the three titles in Tolkien’s bestselling high fantasy series. The novel is divided into a total of three volumes, spanning six books, two per volume.

The novel is set in a fictional universe called middle-earth. A Dark Lord named Sauron harbors the ambition to conquer and reign over all of middle-earth. He creates a powerful ring called the One Ring to control the Rings Of Power, several magical rings created under Sauron’s guidance. Sauron is the main antagonist in the novel, and the titular character of the series as well.

In The Hobbit, the prequel to The Lord Of The Rings, the One Ring leaves Sauron’s hand. The Lord Of The Rings covers Sauron’s quest to reclaim the One Ring coupled with the continued efforts of the West to foil his ambitious plans.

The first volume is titled The Fellowship Of The Ring. It begins at Bag End with the birthday celebrations of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo leaves all his possessions to Frodo, his adopted heir. Frodo eventually learns that the ring he received as part of his legacy is actually the powerful One ring belonging to Sauron. On the advice of a wizard named Gandalf, Frodo sets out on a mission to ensure the safety of the ring. Several hobbits, dwarves, wizards, and elves join hands to keep the ring from falling into Sauron’s hands.

The second volume, The Two Towers, focuses on the betrayal of a wizard named Saruman, who switches to the Dark side and pledges his allegiance to Sauron. Subsequently, Frodo travels east with the ring, and unwittingly walks into danger.

In the third and final volume, The Return Of The King, the journey of the ring culminates in a decisive showdown that could result in the victory of good over evil, or it could backfire and the dark forces could end up conquering all. This volume contains many appendices that provide a wealth of background information on the story.

The Lord Of The Rings was first released in 1954. With sales of over 150 million copies, it is the third best-selling novel ever. It has been translated into numerous languages and has also been reprinted several times over. Its film, theater, and radio adaptations have won numerous awards. The book continues to form the basis of a variety of ancillary products in the form of video games, artwork, music, and more.

Bliss for all the Tolkien's fan

My friend Anurag told me the other night that all the three books of Our all time fav. Literature are coming in an unbelievable price.
After watching The Hobbit with 48fps i again wanted to visit the middle earth with my friend Frodo and with my wizard friend, Gandalf the Grey/White.
Being a hardcore reader and being a Fan of the middle earth, the wait and patience was not in my limit. Searched it and found it. Ordered it and got t within 48hrs. Just 48hrs and the Lords of the Ring series was at my door step.
So again, the adventure of the middle earth begins with Frodo, here and back again.

Rotten packaging ruins an otherwise excellent buy

The most sensible thing HarperCollins did with this edition of "The Lord Of The Rings" was to split each of the three titles into two; after all, it's not really a trilogy, and nothing can be worse than lugging a massive, 600+ page paperback around. Six titles of moderate girth are possibly the best way of sampling this work.
What was not so sensible, however, is the cardboard case that houses the seven volumes. It was a pretty tight fit when it arrived, and it only got worse as the books expanded with use. Halfway through "The Two Towers", I discovered that the only...

What was not so sensible, however, is the cardboard case that houses the seven volumes. It was a pretty tight fit when it arrived, and it only got worse as the books expanded with use. Halfway through "The Two Towers", I discovered that the only things that would prise the books out were unnecessary violence and a pair of pliers.
The book itself needs no introduction- Tolkien's sequel to "The Hobbit" has as many admirers as it has detractors.
As far as this is edition is concerned, buy it only if you can live with leaving one of the books permanently out of the slipcase, or having to go to extreme lengths to extricate one.

Books brilliant, but slip case a problem.

I ordered it from Flipkart and its service was, as usual, brilliant. I want to emphasize on the slip case and the books rather than the story that the books tell. Not because I don't like the story or whatever but because I think whoever is thinking to buy them has a rough idea by now about the plot and characters, etc.
So, the books are pretty handy, because I used to have this 50th anniversary edition, which meant that all three books were rolled into one big, really hard to handle book. So, this one makes me very happy. Each book is slim enough to make it easy while reading and light en...

So, the books are pretty handy, because I used to have this 50th anniversary edition, which meant that all three books were rolled into one big, really hard to handle book. So, this one makes me very happy. Each book is slim enough to make it easy while reading and light enough to carry it around whenever you want. As for the slipcase, well, that's where the hitch comes. Because the slip case is a bit hard to put books into. I don't know but it always frustrates me to no end when I get one of the books in the slip case.
I feel that for these books, a box set would have been perfect. But the quality of the paper is adequate and its font size perfect. If only this had been a box set instead of a slip case! Oh well.

Guess what... 73 % off!

I got this book for Rs. 297 (73% off MRP). In local stores they were selling this at MRP or at max only 20% off. @Flipkart: Your book deals are awesome!
??? Regarding this book, I would say that it is much much better than its price. Even if it is paperback, the cover is not as thin, but lies somewhere between paperback & hardcover.
??? Many ppl have complained about the small maps & fonts in this book. I think the maps are ok, but the font size could have been larger. But that is unavoidable if you want all the three parts in one book (for the sake of simplicity and less cost).

Best epic fantasy!

I haven't seen the films yet (because I wanted to read it first). And finally, after reading it, I'm left complete spellbound by Tolkien's imagination power. There's no match of Tolkien in epic fantasy. And I've seen many people debating about which is better, Harry Potter or LOTR. Both are great... (View complete review)

The Lord of the Rings Box Set: Is a good set of the legendary LOTR books, Contains all the indexes and appendix with maps. The quality is not that of Hard Cover, but this is one of the best paperback copies that you can buy. (View complete review)

The story is obviously great! The box cover is a little fragile but the books are in great condition and look beautiful.. I'll recommend you to buy this instead of buying three separate parts! (View complete review)
