The Luck Of The Find

A young man goes from being just a boy traveling with his father to see the west to being a man in every sense of the word. Along the way he finds the long-dead remains of his grandfather and inherits a fortune in businesses as well as money. He is shot and nearly dies from the infection it causes. The young woman he eventually marries nurses him back to health. While trying to rid himself of a business he wants no part of (a house of ill repute), he saves the life of a Chinese man, and by so doing finds he has not one but two people sworn to follow him and do his bidding. He plans for a hospital and an orphanage to be built in the town he and his father now call home. He also finds he has an aunt even his father didn't know about. The stabbing of this aunt causes him to go into the mountains to find the man responsible. Finding this man, seeing what has been done to him, and his own feeling cause him to feel that he needs to get away for a while to check on some mystery ledgers that were part of the things he found with his grandfather's body. This he does after marrying the girl he has come to love.
