Made In Japan: Akio Morita & Sony (Paperback) Price: Rs.252

A post World War 2 Japan was known for shabby quality. A few businessmen gathered in a scorched department store in Tokyo, founding a company that soon became synonymous with the word quality. Made In Japan is the story of Sony and Akio Morita, the man who made it possible.

Summary of the Book

Japanese quality has never meant the same as quality anywhere else. Before World War 2, it was ludicrous to associate the word quality with Japan. After World War 2, things changed. Japan changed. One example of this change is visible in the growth of what began in a derelict departmental store and eventually became one of the greatest electronics giant of the twentieth century. Today's generation views Sony, and generally all Japanese, products as those of the best quality. Incomparable quality in fact, and the secret behind the success and radical change of Japan is open for all. The Japanese way is in their culture, their very blood. Akio Morita is one of the co-founders of Sony and in his conversational style readers are welcomed into the world that is Sony, and ultimately Japan.

Book about Japan, Sony and Akio Morita

This book gives you an inside view as to how Sony was built into such a powerful brand. Akio Morita always viewed Sony as a company which innovates and launches new products before anyone else did. This was largely true in the early 80s when they launched the 'Walkman' and made it a global success.

In the book Akio Morita also compares the Japanese Vs American styles of working and how the different cultures in the respective countries play a part in it. The book is informative about Japan and the author delves into the past to explain the Japanese style of working and Japanese culture....

The book is a bit slow at times and gets a little boring when the author goes into the minute details about the company in the 80s. The book loses relevance at times because it all happened a long time ago and the author is unable to keep the readers interest.

There is certainly a lot to learn from Akio Morita's style as a leader. Read this book if you are interested in autobiographies / business / leadership or else its better left untouched.

Inspirational book

An amazing insight to SONY Corporation and the way the leaders behind it struggled. This book is truly inspirational in two ways, one, the vision of Mr. Akio Morita and his team to build a world class organization and second, the struggles they faced during Second World War period. This is the factual illustration true commitment and passion.

I will recommend this book to those who are interested in “Biographies” / “Entrepreneurship” and “Management”.

Purely Japanese

Yep!it the work from the great giant from the land of.raising sun.Truly excellent narration of history.Normally the most of the history about WWII we known was from American Perspective. It describes from Japanese perspective. The work of excellence shows the resilience of the people of japan as the whole and their culture.this man is the example of hoe business is to be done, handled, and execute it in a purely distinctive way.

Every management student have to read this book ""patiently"" because the concept is very much stretched and exhausting. But Worth it

Great Company Sony

The book portrays life before , during and after the war. How he was interested in science and his university career. He began with a ordinary company but with his hard work and persistence he was able to transform the company from an ordinary one to the one it stands today. How the magnetic tape recorder of Sony gave way to Walkman , the revolutionary product that made the company it is today. How company organised itself in manufacturing and quality and its stages of growth from private to public company and Morita's career in the company all is a fascinating read.

Samurai Akio Morita.

Plot:The book tells you about the life of Akio Morita-one of the founders of electronic giant sony.He gives us a wide perspective of how things were in Japan during world war 2 and also how japanese coped with atomic destruction. How japan transformed its image from one known to supply inferior products to that of cutting edge technology supplier. It also gives an idea of japanese work ethics along with some advise to improve trade relations. He shows how to move from a parochical view to a truly internationalist view.

Comment:Good buy.

A new view

This book provides you a different view point and shows how being procedure oriented can be helpful sometimes.

One point that i liked is that : failures are inevitable, don't worry too much about them. look at what you can do that others can't and build on it

Japanese way of doing business !!!

The book revolves around Sony's ingenuity and Japanese way of doing business. The first half of the book is good. But,later the stuff becomes repetitive.Morita consumes a large part of the book in comparing Japanese style to the American way of doing business which most people will feel boring.Def...
