BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Chip Heath and Dan Heath's Switch.

Mark Twain once observed, “A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on.” His observation rings true: Urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus public-health scares circulate effortlessly. Meanwhile, people with important ideas–business people, teachers, politicians, journalists, and others– struggle to make their ideas “stick.”

Why do some ideas thrive while others die? And how do we improve the chances of worthy ideas? In Made to Stick, accomplished educators and idea collectors Chip and Dan Heath tackle head-on these vexing questions. Inside, the brothers Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the “human scale principle,” using the “Velcro Theory of Memory,” and creating “curiosity gaps.”

In this indispensable guide, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds–from the infamous “kidney theft ring” hoax to a coach’s lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony– draw their power from the same six traits.

Made to Stick is a book that will transform the way you communicate ideas. It’s a fast-paced tour of success stories (and failures)– the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who drank a glass of bacteria to prove a point about stomach ulcers; the charities who make use of “the Mother Teresa Effect”; the elementary-school teacher whose simulation actually prevented racial prejudice. Provocative, eye-opening, and often surprisingly funny, Made to Stick shows us the vital principles of winning ideas–and tells us how we can apply these rules to making our own messages stick.

Excellent, Sticky book!

One of the more profound books on communication that i have read so far. The traditional way of understanding communication i.e. the Sender-Receiver model only promotes one-way communication but in today's world when most of the communication is about persuasion, negotiation and influence- it is necessary to do communication that makes a lasting impression or as the book says make the communication sticky in the minds of receiver. Got introduced to many new ideas to make ideas sticky including understanding of Curse of Knowledge, creating of knowledge gaps and subsequently filling them, Eff... ()

Got introduced to many new ideas to make ideas sticky including understanding of Curse of Knowledge, creating of knowledge gaps and subsequently filling them, Effciency vs Experimentation debate and lots of tips/examples in making communication Simple, Credible, Unexpected, Concrete, Emotional and importance of stories. I liked the section which talked about rather than relying of too much content, have more sticky, less content. Would need to read this again to internalize the concepts. An Excellent read overall!

Gud book!

A really useful book. I found it presents an often forgotten viewpoint and that is of the audience. The real life examples are well woven and make the points stronger. I have tried to incorporate some of what I have learnt from the first few chapters. Yet to complete the whole book.

Recommended!

A guide to Sticky Ideas

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Rife with interesting and thought provoking stories from the real world, the Authors , very lucidly drive home their point. The framework they have provided is testable and very much applicable in the Real World. I, for one, have already started employing it. This is one of those books that I am going to read again, to get the most out of it.
