Maila Aanchal ( English: The Soiled Border) is a 1954 Hindi novel written by Phanishwar Nath Renu. This novel?? is regarded as the most significant Hindi novel in the Hindi literary tradition. It is one the greatest examples of "Anchalik Upanyas" (regional novel) in Hindi.
This social novel details the trials and tribulations of a small group of people in a remote village of North-east Bihar during the Quit India Movement. It also has the reference of a young doctor (dagdar babu) who took care of the masses at that time,which was inspired by Dr. Alakh Niranjan, the first MBBS doctor in the locality.

About The Author
Phanishwar Nath Renu (March 4, 1921 ??? April 11, 1977) was one of the most successful and influential writers of modern Hindi literature in the post Premchand era. He is the author of Malia Anchal, which after Preminger's Godaan, is regarded as the most significant Hindi novel.
Phanishwar Nath 'Renu' is best known for promoting the voice of the contemporary rural India through the genre of 'Aanchalik Upanyas' (Regional Story), and is placed amongst the pioneering Hindi writers who brought regional voices into the mainstream Hindi literature.
His short story Maare Gaye Gulfam was adapted into a film Teesri Kasam (The Third Vow),by Basu Bhattacharya (produced by the poet-lyricist Shailendra) in 1966 for which he also wrote the dialogues. Later his short story Panchlight (Petromax) was made into a TV short film.

Maila Anchal

Always wanted to read this classic novel of Renu. Its very engrossing and one would like it to read it in one go.

Great for reading as well as for personal collection.
