  • Description
In his most extraordinary book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Oliver Sacks recounts the stories of patients lost in the bizarre, apparently inescapable world of neurological disorders. These are case studies of people who have lost their memories and with them the greater part of their pasts; who are no longer able to recognize people or common objects; whose limbs have become alien; who are afflicted and yet are gifted with uncanny artistic or mathematical talents. In Dr Sacks's splendid and sympathetic telling, each tale is a unique and deeply human study of life struggling against incredible adversity. 'Oliver Sacks has become the world's best-known neurologist. His case studies of broken minds offer brilliant insight into the mysteries of consciousness' - Guardian

    Excellent Book

Haven't bought it from flipkart, but read it in library. Totally engrossing and given that I don't particularly like medical science, this book is simply awesome. To make a insight into a normal person is hard enough, but Oliver Sacks gives a pretty insightful view into what world must look like for people with extremely rare mental complications, some of them very bizarre looking.

    Classic--defines the genre

Oliver Sacks has single-handedly defined the literary genre of which this book is a classic example. A. R. Luria, whom Sacks acknowledges as an inspiration, may have been one of the first to write about medical conditions of his patients with intelligence and compassion, but Sacks has taken it to another level with his breadth and depth of knowledge.

The case histories which form this book prove, to paraphrase Sir Arthur C. Clarke, that truth is always far stranger than fiction. No better bo...

    Delightful

It's a very good book that is quite easy to understand and digests different kinds of neuropathies and its condition which is somehow mysterious to others who witness the disease. A must read short stories about illness of the brain and its causes
