Excellent ball head and Quality

Excellent ball head ,if you use it with medium focal length lenses .I had bit of problem composing shots with this head ,when used with longer focal length lenses (Used with Nikon 70-300mm VR / Nikon D700 )

Pro's

1.All metal
2.Good price (I got mine for Rs 5100 approx from flipkart )
3 Excellent for landscaping ,and quick work.

Cons

1 Not suitable for longer lenses .you will problem composing shots .

A perfect match with 190XPROB

This was my first purchase from Flipkart. As I have read in multiple reviews earlier, shipping was fast. Ordered on Thursday late night, expected date was Monday, delivered on Saturday.

Now on the product itself, I purchased it to go with a Manfrotto 190XPROB, to support a 60D with 24-105mm f4L for the time being. On this combination, I did not observe any noticeable drooping post adjustment. I admit, I didn't test for it thoroughly. I was mostly on the wider side of the focal length.

This leg-head combination is perfect for my height. I am 5'5". In Landscape mode, viewfinder is per...

I am 5'5". In Landscape mode, viewfinder is perfectly at my eye-level. In portrait mode however, I do have to bend a little bit, but not too much to be bothered about it. All this with center column fully retracted and legs at the first angle (23 deg).

On the operation of the ball, the friction and the main knob seems to be holding the ball from opposite sides. In few tries, I didn't find any difference in tightening/loosening one or the other. The concept may be similar to coarse/fine adjustments in instruments, but I didn't find it perceptible enough.

The drag on the ball without any tightening was far more than I had expected. But I suppose it is a good thing as it has to support `1.5-2 kgs all the time. A buttery smooth movement may not be ideal for the purpose.

Cons:
It looks quite large and weighs almost as much. Along with the legs, it feels to be around 3kgs. That is a serious thing to consider if it is intended to be used outdoors frequently. I'd be reluctant to carry it wherever I go especially for the weight, even though I spent ~12K for the setup.

All in all, it is a completely different beast compared to my previous Amazon Basics tripod with attached 3-way head. No comparison whatsoever. I don't have any experience with competing brands, so cannot comment on them. I did consider Benro and Vanguard heads in the 5-7K price range before deciding on this one, mainly because of all the positive reviews of the brand and a sudden 25% price cut on the item.

Does what it's meant for

Bang on the buck. It delivers what it is meant for. Easy to use, decent weight (not too heavy or light). You can easily attach your camera(DSLR) to this and work through the 360 degrees panning. Both landscape and portrait modes are easy to work with.i shoot wildlife and had tough time to work with( my 1st time) with manfrotto tripod & the head coz overall system was heavy but saying this it will take less time to get adjusted as it holds camera & lens pretty nicely(Nikon D7100+70-300mm lens).

Sturdy Build, Smooth movements

Sturdy build - feels solid in hand and one can rely on 498RC2 with all camera and lens weight.
Movement is smooth.
Friction knob helps a lot.
Panning in not great, but does the job. Treat it as add-on.
I'm using it with my 055XPROB - seems best combo!

Good to have : Optional panning handle would be great add on...
