    A Bubbly Travel Companion

Aruna Nambiar’s slice-of-life novel set in sleepy, small-town Kerala follows in the delightful tradition of R.K. Narayan’s Malgudi tales. Her writing is smooth and unpretentious, and the book fizzes with a cast of colourful characters. Yes, these are unsophisticated people who lead simple lives; they are often flawed and foolish, and yet the reader cannot help empathizing with them because they seem so vulnerable. A welcome bonus – generous dollops of wry, tongue-in-the-cheek humour! An ideal...

    A must read

A beautifully woven story of the parallel lives of the people in different social strata in a Kerala village, their small triumphs and failures, their jubilations and sorrow, seen through the eyes of young Geetha spending her summer vacation days. Long after reading the book, the cast of characters, sketched with deep empathy, and with colourful names such as Ration Raaman and Koovait K...

    Innocent and authentic!

‘Mango Cheeks Metal teeth’ is a light fiction. Reading this book is like revisiting your childhood spent playfully in vacations.

The writing style of the author is neat and crisp. Events are described so realistically that it gives the story a certain kind of authenticity. There's a nice touch of humour and innocence that often brings a smile. Characters are well defined.

For me it was a sweet read but frequent usage of Malayali terms and so many characters made it confusing for me. Ther...

A playful coming of age story

Really funny and yet poignant. Described Kerala very vividly and captured the excitement, fun and frustrations of childhood and growing up. I'm not sure what I like more, the crazy characters or the hilarious descriptions and conversations.
