Satish Chandra is an acclaimed Indian author and historian. Satish Chandra is a member of the Marxist historians group and the Indian History Congress. He advocates secular historiography and his books were reintegrated into the national curriculum. Born in Meerut, in a zamindar family, his father Sir Sita Ram was a barrister, politician and educator. He worked at Aligarh Muslim University as a Reader before becoming a co-founder and professor of the Centre for Historical Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He also served as the General Secretary and President at the Indian History Congress and the Dean at JNU’s School of Social Sciences. He also became the Vice Chairman and subsequently Chairman of the University Grants Commission.
