I have been dying to experiment with an off camera strobe for a really long time. However, because the prices of the Nikon flashes were quite high, I had to keep pushing my plan of purchasing one of those flashes (SB-600/700/800 etc) time and again. In the meantime I got a very handy flash unit, the Sunpak PZ42X which fulfilled my bouncing needs very nicely. Only problem: I could not use it as an optical slave. That was when I chanced upon this Metz 50 and bought it. I have been playing around with it for about a day or two now, and it's a very good flash that is for sure. Powerful (GN50), full TTL capability with Nikon and also manual mode, with tilt/swivel, and optical slave capabilities. No optical master though. And the menu in the back panel (LCD) is primitive so you need to keep pressing buttons. But other than that, this flash is excellent. I think my search for my off-camera slave has ended. Maybe I'll buy one more soon :)
