Pros and cons.

First of all, I would like to say that I did not buy this phone from, I bought it early at 14k. I have been using this phone very regularly, and I am very satisfied with this phone. Based on my experience, here are the pros and cons.

1) The IPS screen display, 5.0 inch - 720p - ~294 ppi, is very crisp and very sharp. Everything looks crystal clear. Viewing angles are great too. Screen display is easily readable even under sunlight.
2) The 1.2 GHZ quad-core processor makes the phone run very smoothly. I have not experienced any lag on this phone. As a result of this processor, even HD games run at best quality smoothly. Antutu benchmark rating is in the 12k range, which is lower than the high end quad core phones, like the S3 and One X, but higher than much more expensive phones, like the Note and S2. In the same test, the Grand scores in the 6k region.
3) The screen size, 5.0 inches, might put off some people before buying. I've been using a 3.2 inch phone and 4.0 inch phone before this, yet, I find this 5.0 inch screen is comfortable to use. It's surprisingly light too.
4) People might complain about the quality, but the feel of the plastic is really good, and even though I've accidentally dropped my phone many times, there isn't even a mark on the body. So far, as per experience, the build quality is really very good.
5) The camera flash strength is above expected, and the phone supports HDR image capturing. The 1080p and 720p videos shot with my the phone are of good quality. Yes, this phone also shoots full HD videos (although the description says it shoots only upto 720p) at 1920x1088 resolution, in the right settings. I guess even the people at Micromax don't know the capabilities of their phone :P
6) The touchscreen is perfect, very responsive. Detects upto 5 fingers (not that anyone needs 5 fingers on their screen though).
7) The battery of the phone performs above expectations, I get 8 hours and more when using the phone with Wi-Fi and Dual Sim.
8) Micromax gives the stock Jellybean 4.1.2 with this phone. I prefer this over Samsung's TouchWiz, although that is only a personal opinion. The user interface is clean, easy to use and butter smooth. Google Now, which is only available in Android 4.1 and above, is an awesome feature that beats even Apple's Siri.
10) The phone looks absolutely stunning. It looks like an Galaxy S3 from the front, and a One X from the back.

1) The display's contrast is a bit low, but that could be just my phone. Though, that does not compromise the screen content quality, everything is still crystal clear.
2) The 8 MP primary camera, is of bad quality. It has autofocus and an LED flash, but the 8 MP photos are grainy, and not very clear when zoomed into. It's better 5 MP or 6 MP smartphone cameras, but it's quality is below than most 8 MP smartphone cameras. A friend's Micromax A110 Canvas 2, which too has an 8 MP camera, shoots better and brighter photos.
3) Audio quality isn't good when earphones are connected to it. Only the earphones that come with the packaging give good quality, but these earphones aren't good. Connecting the phone to a speaker system, though, doesn't give any problems. Music quality using a bluetooth headset, too, is clear and perfect. The in-built equalizer in the stock music app really helps too.

A word about the service quality of Micromax, appalling. I haven't had any problems with my phone, but I have experienced their lack of skill and professionalism when I wanted to upgrade my phone to the latest Jellybean. Most service centres didn't know anything about the new update, and one service centre here in Kolkata returned my phone after three days, without updating, and did a factory reset. The phone is an excellent gadget, but the company and the people in the service branch are just bad. Their service is the main reason I would not be buying another Micromax ever.

As this is a phone, I must add that call quality and networking on this phone are absolutely perfect, and I have experienced no issues so far.

The preloaded apps that come with the phone, a cricket game, Micromax store etc., cannot be removed without rooting, but they can be disabled, and they don't seem to take up much space, so it isn't an issue.

Overall, I would recommend that unless you're very brand conscious (in which case, it's your loss), or a heavy gamer who wants all the latest games installed, this would be the most perfect phone released in India for this price. But, only buy if the price is around or below 14k.

This review is based on a personal experience on using this phone, and all opinions are my own, and may vary from person to person.
I hope this review helps you in purchasing a new phone. :)

Stop giving wrong reviews

Please don't give false reviews to people by giving false details.

Mediatek is not a Chinese company but has its headquarters in Taiwan.
Moreover canvas hd uses mediatek's premium mt6589 processor being advertised on mediatek's website.

Recently Sony has announced that it will use mediatek proces
sor for many of its phones.
go type mediatek on Wikipedia.

Micro max IS NOT A CHINESE is an Indian company and its products are designed developed in India so its not so bad after all.

The sound quality of the speakers are good but its true the headphones are pathetic, but u can always buy good ones.

The built quality of this phone is also very good. After rooting u can use sd card memory also.micro max has announced it will provide updates for its upcoming mobiles.
Yes i will agree that micro max service is bad but i am sure it will improve.the camera is not what was expected but is manageable.Rest i have not heard/experienced of any problems u mentioned.

Please dont write such reviews without using the phone

Awesome phone - Total VFM

Received this phone from snapdeal. Using it since 15 days.
Excellent display - Watching HD video's is just amazing experience.
Super-fast touch.
Fast processor - played front line commando , speed racer, temple run easily and lote of games.
OS- Excellent. Jelly bean 4.1
Video quality is good -Super HD recording.
Camera is good with flash support.
Solid build quality.Looks quite premium.

Sound quality is average
Low internal memory. Just 1.77 MB
Indoor camera shooting is not that good.

Update After using 3 months:
Not a single issue faced yet.
The phone has fallen dawn through staircase but nothing is damaged.
Also got dropped from hand 2-3 times but no damage. (This proves solid build quality)

I have recommended this phone to many of my friends and they also liked the same.
Before purchasing just get hands on it and you will come to know the quality.

Flipkart priced it too much

No offense flipkart. You priced it very high. i got this mobile from local shop for 15K and i feel 15K also bit higher.

Now about the product.

i have bought a white color one. Personally i did not like the back panel of the white model because its not glossy like the black model and feel bit cheap.

Secons think i do not like is the color reproduction of the phone. Its HD, Yes but i feel the contrast is set bit high and some colors are washed out.

Third and last think i do not like with the handset is the low light photography. The LED light seems to be not capable of anything. Camera is slightly better than the A110. I own both the sets and personally feel Micromax should have increased the LED light quality of the phone considering they priced it bit high.

If you are okay with the cons then its really a good phone. Micromax bloatwares are taking some decent amount of RAM. Unfortunately till now nobody has tried rooting this phone so that all the bloatwares can be removed.

My experience with A116

My major use is:-
1. Calls (Hours long)
2. Whatsapp
3. Exchange Email
4. Gmail
5. Navigation (GPS)

I am into software testing field since 7 years now & had a close proximity with mobile testing team - who had been into testing of brands like Nokia, Samsung & Motorola.
(I had played around with Samsung Galaxy in 2009 when it was with the testing team :))

I had a very bad experience with Micromax earlier but I still thought of buying it for following reasons:-
1. Improved brand image
2. Good reviews at major review sites
3. Very affordable price (I bought it at 14200) - major reason :)
4. 5" screen - very much required
5. 1 GB RAM (quite desired as my earlier Samsung mobile had loads of issues due to low RAM)
6. 1 GB usable internal memory (Required as Google maps require lot of space for updates)
7. Android (Must)
8. 3.5 mm audio jack
9. Quad core Processor (Most important reason)

Features I compromised on while selecting A116 as I already have Nokia X6:-
1. Camera (Front & Back)
2. Battery Life (I had a backup)
3. GPS (Nokia’s GPS & navigation is quite smooth)
4. Touch (My samsung’s GTS5570 had far pathetic touch) - I cant expect touch of iPhone @ 14K :)
5. Brand (wanted to risk Micromax again)

My Experience:-
My usage (after buying it & using it for few weeks) mainly comprised of:-
1. Phone Calls (Hours long) - conference calls
2. GPS / Navigation - I usually rely on GPS navigation
3. Email Clients (Exchange, GMail, Yahoo)
4. Internet connection is enabled thro Wifi (at home) & 3G (outside home) - Internet for web browsing & at times video streaming thro youtube
5. WhatsApp & Messaging :)

Pros that I could gauge:-
1. Touch is at good - Samsung GTS5570 sometimes missed touches (if Brand matters, GTS5570 should not have failed)
2. Form factor is ergonomic - Atleast for me :)
3. Voice Clarity (atleast till now)
4. Youtube video streaming (upto 360p) & Internet Browsing (normal web applications) is smooth
5. As of now the proximity sensor is working good (My cell phone did fall few times in couple of weeks - total height of fall :: 4 to 5 feet)

Cons that I could make out:-
1. Battery life is severely very low - but at the same time other smartphones too have same issue - i
2. Colors are not that sharp as advertised
3. Phone’s auto poweron/off feature doesnt work for majority of times (Not sure why) - Even when I ’restart’ the phone, the phone would not power up - I have to power on manually - but that’s still tolerable
4. Phone has to be put into airplane mode & back to normal atleast once a day if you need continuity of calling/sms facility :) - For some reasons my phone goes to state where it shows online (connected to network) but do not send/receive calls/sms/internet - This is annoying to some extent
5. Navigation system takes around 10 minutes to lock GPS (Tried using A-GPS, EPO, Wifi) - Nokia X6 locks GPS nearly in 30 seconds using Wifi & nearly 3 mins using A-GPS (It doesnt even have EPO)
6. Battery takes considerable time to charge
7. Its not a dual standby phone & hence incoming caller for sim#2 would hear ’Phone is switched off’ or ’Phone is out of range’ if you are on call on sim#1
8. I expected processing to be faster (considering quad core processor) - it takes few seconds to show message threads (greater than 100) - while Temple Run tests (by major reviewers) says something different
9. Calculator doesn’t seem to hold too many of numbers/formula (Beyond 23 to 25 digits/input characters) - This is not what I expected - My Nokia X6 does atleast 5 times better
10. Camera quality is poor (Both video & still photo) - this might not be a con for me as I didnt choose this phone for camera - I was already aware that camera is not upto marks as per various review comments (Cant really compare it to my Nokia X6’s Carl Zeiss lens :))
11. Camera lens is protruding & hence i fear that it might break if the phone is mishandled - my thoughts
12. It has only 2 LED color (Red & Green) - other phablets have more :) - not a major con though but LED colors help cover alerts/popups disgustingly
13. Speaker volume is considerably low (It cant be termed as speaker - its just a 25%-35% increase in volume over normal phone call) - you cant really enjoy videos/songs on its speakers

Overall Verdict:-
If you are looking for a budget phone with Android, Quad Core Processor (not sure if the processor is really that powerful), 1 GB RAM, 1 GB internal storage with few minor compromises (as per the list of cons above), you can go for it.
If you want everything, go for iPhone.
