The Attempts on this serial is to presents Ghalib's ghazals within the context of his life and of his life and of his outlook, both to the people and the conditions around him. In that sense, the ghazals hopefully refelect the spirit of Ghalib and his times in their true essence.
The ghazals written by him should flow with his biography. Jagjit Singh agreed wholeheartedly with this idea. He read the script for the T.V. serial "Mirza Ghalib", and the compositions came Spontaneously.
In sum, this is our very small tribute to the genius of Ghalib.
Note: This is a 2 Disc Set containing Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the serial.

Puts the viewer right in Qasim Street
The combined performance of Nasruddin Shah and Jagjit Singh (Late) is breathtaking. Puts the viewer right in Qasim Street.
The DVD transfer quality is below average. I was hoping the audio quality of the ghazals at least would be to CD standards, as they are already available in Jagjit Singh collections.
To top it all; the so called subtitling. It is atrocious. Someone has vainly tried to translate the ghazals and the dialogs word by word; ending up in total misinterpretation. He has even tried to rhyme the translation / subtitle.
One place where Ghalib says “the world is child’s playground” the translation reads as “the world is child’s play”.
I suggest you watch the episodes without the subtitles.

I was reading Ghalib's ghazal sometime back.
Then i heard that there was a movie made on Ghalib which also had ghazals written by him.
I didn't know where to find them.
Luckily i was browsing through flipkart and got hold of this movie.
