Description

In Monsoon Wedding Fever, Riya meets her old flame Dhruv after a gap of twelve years. The old attraction still works, but both of them are unsure if they want to take it any further.

Summary Of The Book

Monsoon Wedding Fever starts with the impending marriage of Riya Kumar’s flatmate, Gaurav Khanna. Riya, a small town girl, has made Mumbai her home. She has a good job and is very close to her parents and sister, Shreya, who is a dentist. The last person she expects to meet is Dhruv Malhotra, whom she knew twelve years back. They had a short and sweet romance, but Dhruv walked away, because he did not really believe in love. His belief stems from the fact that his parents married after falling in love and later the marriage fell apart as they could not get along.

After seeing his parents’ unhappy marriage, Dhruv decides there is really nothing to the idea of falling in love. He is an architect in Singapore, and has come back to India to attend his friend Gaurav’s wedding. He did not expect to meet Riya again either. The colorful and vibrant monsoon wedding makes for a romantic backdrop. The two are thrown together quite a lot and the old romance seems to be rekindled. Yet, they have doubts about what they want. Dhruv is still not sure about love. His parents are still bickering with each other, and nothing has happened to make him change his views. As for Riya, she loved Dhruv when she was just seventeen, while she was still in college. But it came to nothing when Dhruv decided to end the relationship.

They both have good careers now, and each is quite happy with their life as it is. If they are to have a deeper commitment to each other, they need more than what they had twelve years back. As the monsoon season progresses, they both question their own feelings and their willingness to enter into a firm relationship. Riya was willing to go all the way with him before. Now, Dhruv has to prove he is willing to be with her for the long run before she will accept him again.

Amateurish

The writing is simple. Story line is good. But couple of things which I did not like about the book.
1. The writer tries hard to make it acceptable to non-Indian audience. Like for every Hindi dialogue used in the book she has given an immediate English translation. It is a bit annoying. Come on, have you ever seen foreign authors providing an English tranlation along with the Spanish/Italian/French words or sentences they use?
2. The book is a bit amaeturish for a seasoned M&B reader like me.

Pure Porn

I must agree that the writing style is very exquisite. However, given the content of the novel, all I can say that this is nothing but an erotica which has been cleverly crafted into a love story. Truly pathetic.
