A book not to be missed

Apart from having a great writing style, this book is also a must-read for the information that it provides. It takes you on a roller-coaster ride of Manipur. The narrative mostly revolves around the 'iron lady of Manipur', Irom Sharmila. This, however, does not affect the book approaching the main problem of AFSPA that people face in Manipur. While reading, one also feels the need of having more books like these. You will also realise how the mainstream media has ignored the North East.

An Intense Effort by Anubha Bhonsle

“I love life. If I really wanted to die, there is a fan, ropes, clothes that can tie myself with. Why would I do this? If AFSPA is repealed I will take food. It is as simple as that.”

These words of Sharmila, are basically the theme of this book. Anyway for a while keep away this thought that you are reading some book review and just imagine, your nervous system suddenly stopped identifying one of your organ, I don’t think I have to explain what you would have suffered in that given condit...

A compelling read on The North East

The very affable TV anchor and the champion of Citizen Journalist, Anubha makes this book a compelling read with graphic imagery of what Manipur is all about. That the tyranny of distance has been shortened in this book is a very great attempt in bringing the stories from Manipur to the masses or even take them to the TV studios because of the way it has been written.

The imagery presented in this book is not just the lush green forest cover but uncovers the militant and the govt, the life a...

The state of the State of Manipur which everyone must read!

Anubha Bhonsle draws our attention to the state of Manipur in this book and as with an accomplished journalist, Anubha does it with great perfection and ensures that a little bit of the surface has been scratched.

Starting with the happenings in Manipur before 1947 and the struggle around the time of India’s independence followed by the state of neglect it was in for close to three decades after independence, ‘Mother, Where’s My Country?’ paints a vivid picture on why there are problems in t...

    The Real View

A recent meeting organised by a group of students and civilians from the state of Kashmir led to one of the strongest, most infamous and violent protest the country had ever seen. These were just students from the state of Kashmir who wanted to talk to people about the problems and difficulties they face on their own state and hometown. What should have been a peaceful exchange of ideas and opinions soon led to a clash between ideologies and diversities.

    A definitive book on Manipur

As rightly put by many others this is a necessary book. ?It tells you that Manipur is much more than what is splashed across on media and even our books in schools.? This is a compelling book and its strong, able report-like narration makes it a unputdownable read.

    Gory and horrific

I'll rate the book 4.5/5 stars
Yes, that is the kind of life people in the north eastern states of India are living thanks to government negligence and militant groups. This book talks about Irom Sharmila and her fight for the rights of the people. Her fight is with AFSPA, other militant groups and Indian army. A must read, especially now.
