Motorola Charm is Pocket Hercules - Power Packed Phone

I am using this phone currently and this is a fully loaded phone which defy its price (7k). Battery is a concern for a heavy user but you can take the most out of your battery with the help of shutting down unwanted application running in the back ground. Track Pad is very convenient and better than what I was expecting. At 7k you won't get any other phone which can compete with this. I fully disagree with the people who gave a bad rating for the phone for its Android OS 2.1 Eclair. Come on!! We cannot expect Motorola Charm to behave like Pandorra's Box for a price tag of Rs. 6999.

Good looker, well built but PATHETIC battery life and pathetic software

I ordered Charm and got it after one day.
The phone is loaded with features, well built and is a great looker. I even got queries and appreciation at my workplace:)..so it was kind of good. However the phone software is pathetic and the worst among all phones I have used in past 10-12 years. The android interface is nice but the settings are impossible:-
1.The worst thing is that the phone keep forgetting setting.
2. There is an option of turning off the Haptic Feedback. But even after turning it off, it does not get turned off. The vibration on touching touch keys is irritating at times.

2. There is an option of turning off the Haptic Feedback. But even after turning it off, it does not get turned off. The vibration on touching touch keys is irritating at times.
3. At times switching on WiFi does not switches it on in real.
4. Many times, the touch screen fails to accept any touch feedback. This happens more often when there is an incoming call. You simply can not pick the call and have to disconnect it, and then call the caller back.It does not happen always but it DOES happen.
5. In all phones we can set personal ringtone (apart from default ones) for incoming call and messages. Obviously..!!! But in Charm we can only set ringtome alert for calls and not for messages. You have to choose from the default ones. Not an important issue but required to be mentioned.

Above all the battery will rarely work beyond ONE DAY...that is for normal use and on 2G. (I do not have 3G activated on my number so no idea about battery life on it...)
If you are a heavy user, ,,using 2G internet, mail, chats, Facebook, music for a while, etc. It might not last even for a day.
I boughjt it for looks, Motorola name and Android. Plus it was sold by Flipkart...so I bought it...but now disappointed.

Display - Brilliant, Awesome! 3" * 2.8" effective screen area. Touch is best responsive till date as compared to All Nokia/HTC touchphones. Can only be beaten by high end HTC, Samsung Galaxy series(new series phones), WaveII, and other phones in 13K price market. The touchscreen is covered with Gorilla glass where you lay your fingers to touch the screen and is wonderfully scratch resistant. It still looks new to ppl after 6 months besides i dont keep it on table top. Only pockets or stationary on some soft platform. Score: 5
Camera - They say 3MP and its absolutely bogus, my previous samsung 1.3 MP is better than MotoCharm's 3 MP. Cam is pathetic. Score: -2. To be contd...

Good phone if you are not expecting extraordinary

Bought this phone more than a month back. Its a nice decent phone for average use. I'll highlist the Pros and cons below:
Pros
1. Nice looks. Curious eyes look at it when kept on table. Doesn't have a box like look and feel
2. keyboard is great. i have small and thick fingers, so found comfortable in typing
3. Nice grip. With rubber back, it doesn't feel slippery in hands. Plus its scratch resistant
4. Decent sound output. Earphones are good. Even at high volume, voice doesn't squeal and is clear. Even on call sound is clear at low volumes
5. Touch is responsive. Its absolutely adequate as...

4. Decent sound output. Earphones are good. Even at high volume, voice doesn't squeal and is clear. Even on call sound is clear at low volumes
5. Touch is responsive. Its absolutely adequate as in, it isn't too soft nor too hard.
6. Display is ok. Though pixels of pictures taken from other sources might break and give a distorted view, but otherwise display is fine.
7. Wifi works well. even at low signals speed is good.

Cons
1. No profile settings. You can't set different profile for different environment
2. You can't send contacts as business cards through text messages
3. If you like to keep internet ON all the time, then you are going to witness very poor battery performance. It doesn't last even half a day. Though talktime is excellent. Once fully charged, with normal internet and multimedia usage and good talktime, battery lasts a day.
4. Wallpapers can't be set properly. It will ask you to crop the image before setting the desired wallpaper even if you have resized the image according to screen resolution.
5. There are no seperate folders like sentbox, draft, outbox in Messaging. Message appear as chats in the inbox
6. Lot of unwanted service are activated automatically, so one has to turn them off from time to time
7. Doesn't have a radio. Its got an internet based radio

Verdict
I am not a very heavy internet usage or multimedia guy. I have a heavy talktime usage. So the phone works for me. It gives a Rs.10,000 value impression, as people were surprised when i told its for Rs.7,000 only with all the features

2.Gorilla glass??!! ( i doubt that, though didnt tested it by scratching. it certainly doesnt look gorilla glass.. attracts dust and finger prints like a magnet)
3.Packed with single battery.. ( in US charm comes with 2 batteries, a default 1100mah and a high powered 1430mah one.)

as it costs just 7K i have no problems what so ever! i still love motorola, will be buying their products.

those who dont like motorola build quality or brand name can skip this phone to buy other alternatives.

great clam-shell phone, works like a charm!

Its a great phone, with abundant apps etc.
the only thing that puts me off is that there is no upgrade to froyo OS(2.2) hich allows applications to be moved to SD card. but given the price package, good deal.
I recommend all buyers to go low on the apps to let the battery run for a day!

Just the one I needed

I must thank Flipkart first of all for delivering it in time. The phone is a nice choice for a businessman. Though there is a problem with the Operating system loaded in this phone, which is, you must always keep your internet on, otherwise the syncing will stop, and you have to do a factory rese...
