My Yesterday Is Not My Today

When she was in control, she was a good mother. When she was drunk, she did the best she could. It wasn't enough for me, but I didn't understand that it was all she could do. My father worked for a steel mill and he was a good father to all four of his children, but unfortunately he didn't have a lot of time to spend with any of us. Tanesha Hopson didn't grow up in the best parts of Chicago. She would be lucky to graduate from grammar school and attend high school. A black female from an unstable, poor, single-parent home wasn't destined to obtain a college education. Tanesha needed money, guidance, and love; she needed a miracle. After fighting the struggles of abuse and seeing those she loved abuse themselves, she found a way out of south Chicago. Against the odds, Tanesha went to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, followed by postgraduate work in Juvenile Probation. Today, Tanesha follows a career path chosen by God of counselor to at-risk youth. ..."Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us, yes, establish the work of our hands."
