Eva never really wanted to be a mother; certainly not the mother of the unlovable boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker and a teacher who tried to befriend him. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood and Kevin's horrific rampage.

Impossible to put down

I've been wanting to read this from the time that i saw the trailer of the movie based on this book. I am of the school of thought that all children are special and wonderful and this book made me question myself a little bit. I realized how daunting it can be to parent a difficult child. The whole nature-nurture thing is pretty dominant theme in this book(though i still believe that children are putty in parents hands). A satisfying read in all and definitely better than the movie.

I do need to mention that I ordered this book in different cover and instead got quite an ugly cover. But I'm happy that I could procure the book in India at all.

Kevin was born devil or grown up to be one !

Kevin was born devil or grown up to be one ! The question asks this very basic question without trying to give any cliched or sentimental answer to that , it leaves to the reader to find his or her own answer. It tries to see through the society nurtured ideas of divine responsibilities of motherhood , or godliness of children. Immensely thought provoking , written in a crisp language. The writer throws volleys after volleys of uncomfortable and complex questions to the reader wrapped in a very accessible language and narrative style. Exceptional book.
