Book: The New Old: How The Boomers Are Changing Everything . . . Again
Focusing on the Baby Boomer generation, this argument explores how this group is permanently destroying previous attitudes toward aging, retirement, senior citizens, and even the concept of death. An analysis of welfare rates and health-care costs demonstrates that the "Boomers" are influencing everything from education and employment to housing, health, beauty, and sex. With solid statistical support, this groundbreaking study takes a closer look at new kinds of social relationships as well as new products that can reduce or even eliminate the effects of aging. The topics covered offer a sneak preview of an imminently new society--one in which receiving a gold watch at the age of 65 will simply mean the first half of life is over.

*Retired Persons or Zoomers?
Review by Christopher Blackburn
The author, David Cravit, is Executive Vice-President of ZoomerMedia, which has taken over marketing for CARP, formerly Canada's Association for Retired Persons. A glossy magazine, ZOOMER magazine, has replaced the rather dull-looking but quite interesting CARP newsletter, and the media company insists that CARP is now Canada's Association for Zoomers. (The book says that this term was arrived at by starting with Baby Boomers and moving through "Boomers" and "Boomers with Zip." It certainly has a livelier image than "retired persons".)
David Cravit insists that "Baby Boomers and older" are not retired persons, expect to keep working, and represent an important market segment. He feels that marketers should be directing more advertising to the group of persons born after World War II.
