A Newport Conspiracy

When love, politics and family secrets collide, tragedy strikes. A late-night telephone call seeks the services of a hit man to murder the daughter of Henry Anderson, the mayor of Newport, Rhode Island. Within days, a young woman's body is pulled from the harbor, and the police keep her identity a secret. Another victim, Squeek, who had agreed to be part of a police sting, is also found dead, lying face down in his boat a short distance from where the woman was found. Evidence leads to the initial contact in the conspiracy, but when police locate him, he is already dead in the Cayman Islands. These events unfold during a political convention, and the mayor of Providence, who is no stranger to controversy, becomes a suspect. Scott Avery, a semi-retired investigative reporter, is drawn into the case to help the police garner leads. The story takes an unusual twist when Avery discovers that there is another person with a motive for the murder.
