Nirmala is a book published in the year 1928, which throws light on the life of young women when they are married to individuals much older than themselves.

Summary Of The Book

Nirmala revolves around the life of Nirmala, who is a 15-year-old girl. She is forced to marry an elderly man, who was a widower and had three sons.

She was no left with other option due to the fact that her parents were extremely poor and could not give any dowry to the prospective groom. From his first marriage, Totaram had three boys, who were as old as Nirmala.

Things begin to take a turn when Nirmala begins to find her true love in Totaram’s oldest son. This causes Totaram to become extremely jealous, forcing him to separate them before things get out of control. His son dies as a result of comminatory sickness, which leaves Nirmala harassed by the fear that she played a role in his death.

Nirmala is considered an open accusation to the confused patriarchal society, it gives the readers information about the time prior to the feminist movement in the nation of India.

Awesome heart touching tale

classic by Prem Chand.
Journey of a women , sacrifices made by her and the choices she never had .
This tale is so heart touching that you will often find yourself sobbing.
At times , I would be so upset that I will keep off the novel for few days just to keep myself get in sync.

Nobody can ever depict true emotions as Prem Chandra ji.
Salute to this writer.

Disgusting paper/print quality

Got it delivered in 2 days time. Thanks to Flipkart.
I wont comment on the story as I have not read it yet but the quality of the paper and the print is a major let down. Avoid Rajpal publication and go for some other higher priced version.

Legendary Novel

There is no doubt that Premchand is one of the greatest Hindi writer we had. I found Nirmala is a great portrayal of human nature and doubts and thinking. I could relate it to today's society and its thinking even after 80 years.
No complains about excellent delivery by flipkart within 2 days.
Font size of this particular book is too small though but its a bargain to have this in my collection at this cheap price :)
