Description

The first ever gripping first person account of the extraordinary mission by the US Navy SEAL team to kill the terrorist mastermind and the days leading up to it.

Summary Of The Book

No Easy Day: The Only First Hand Account Of The Navy Seal Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden is the memoir of Mark Owen, the alias of an ex member of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU). It begins with an account of his childhood in Alaska and how he nurtured a dream to be a SEAL throughout his childhood. The first portion of the book also details stories of his early days at DEVGRU and elucidates many operations performed as a part of this group in the mountain tops of Afghanistan and streets of Iraq. There is also a brief description of a hijacking rescue operation of Maersk Alabama ship, of which he was a part of. Throughout the first half of the book, Owen constantly emphasizes the dedication, professionalism and camaraderie displayed by his fellow soldiers during extremely taxing training and risky missions.

The second part of No Easy Day: The Only First Hand Account Of The Navy Seal Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden is a nail-biting second-by-second detailed recounting of Owen’s days as he became part of the elite twenty four man team that eventually trained for the mission, Operation Neptune Spear, the surprise attack that was directed on Osama bin Laden.

Two weeks after the training, the helicopter borne assault force takes off from a forward operating base in eastern Afghanistan flying low across the border into the night. However things start to go wrong as they venture deep inside Pakistan’s heavily defended airspace.
Every moment is recounted in vivid detail, from the Black Hawk helicopter going down which threatened the entire mission till the final radio call which confirmed the death of Bin Laden. Owen says that he was part of the team that killed Bin Laden and was one of the members of the team.

The book received a mixture of shock and awe upon release from both the press and the public. It stayed on USA Today’s and New York Times bestsellers list for many weeks.

Read it nonstop, finished it in less than 9 hours

Been eagerly waiting for this book, and on being delivered, pounced on it right away.

I was hoping that it is not restricted to only the OBL operation, but that it would include their other operations, in this respect, it does not disappoint. In fact, the author had taken part in the rescue of the American captain from Somali pirates, which was still fresh in public memory. Even for the OBL operation alone, one would've brought the book. All the other operations definitely are an added bonus...

REVIEW OF NO EASY DAY

Fast paced, very action oriented, mostly objective and simple language makes the book gripping. Can be read in a day or two without the reader feeling stressed. Sustains interest through out and the descriptions and the pictures are evocative and educate the reader without seeing to instruct or become too technical.

The reader lives out the life of the Navy SEAL and despite the fact that the main story is the final operation that eliminates Osama Bin Laden, at no place does the reader feel i...

Must read

Pick this up if you are interested in a tactical account of Operation Geronimo. The author traces his own career but describes a significant portion of the book to the planning, training and execution of the operation. In 2014 the SEAL who actually shot UBL has given a slightly different account, which has taken off some shine of this book. Nevertheless an important book and will remain a reference in coming years.

Surprised

A truly amazing read but am surprised that the author has decided to go ahead and publish his work despite the security threat. Hadn't his identity been comprised? This keeps intriguing me but, the flow in which he goes taking you through the life of a navy seal is simply superb. Life of a solider is never easy and that thought will be with you throughout as you read. Watch the movie ZERO DARK THIRTY after you read this book; you'll get a wholistic view of the entire mission which spanned acr...

Holy smokes this was good!

Being a fan of the US Military, and specially the SEALs, and especially Team Six, Naval Special Warfare Development Group, I ordered this book, because Neptune Spear was one of the most important in US and also world history. After hearing multiple accounts, and statements which were being changed by the United States, I though reading Mark Owen's book would be the best to get a first-hand account. The book was epic, one of the best ones I've read. I've read around 16 Military-Non-Fiction boo...
