  • Description

The first thing you would notice about the Nokia 808 PureView is that it is a first of its kind when it comes to picture quality. Packed with a mammoth 41 megapixel camera, the Nokia 808 is very serious about its ability to render high quality images and video. The Nokia 808 PureView is run on the Symbian Belle OS and is commanded by a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor. The phone is satisfactorily responsive with 512 MB of RAM, although that is still lower than other phones in a similar price range.

This Nokia phone’s display is an ample 4-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with an adequate resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. The most amazing feature of this phone is definitely its camera, which will leave you spellbound with the results it shows. It is widely claimed to be among the best camera phones seen in the market.

The extremely powerful 41 megapixels camera comes with a 4x digital zoom function accompanied by an effective Xenon flash. The secondary front-facing camera is 0.3 megapixel and can be used for video calls. The Autofocus on the camera is extremely helpful and makes photography on the mobile quite fun and easy. Similarly, the video shooting clarity on the device is quite exceptional. Additionally, the phone comes with an abundance of camera features such as Red-eye reduction, Carl Zeiss optics, Touch focus, Geo-tagging and Face detection. Nokia has now promised to provide their customers with a superb sound quality on their devices by joining hands with Dolby Laboratories, the audio clarity being a standout feature of this phone.

    Design

The phone is bulky in its presence and weighs in at 169 g. The edges of the phone have a curved finish to them. The display is well protected by the tried and tested Corning Gorilla Glass. The display has an ambient light detector and brightness control which serve their purpose by helping to conserve battery. The device also comes with an orientation sensor (accelerometer) which understands the position in which the device is held so as to adjust the display for optimized viewing.

    Storage and Battery

The device comes with an internal memory of 16 GB and 1 GB ROM. The expandable memory slot allows up to 32 GB extra memory via a micro SD card for your music collection. The phone is powered by a 1400 mAh, Li-Ion battery which promises a talk time of 9 hours on 2G and 6.5 hours on 3G networks.

    Connectivity and Features

The phone comes with a WAP pre-installed browser. With this Symbian based mobile phone you can stay connected to the internet via GPRS and EDGE technology which transfer data over the 2G spectrum. For a better online browsing experience you can be connected to the internet using the 3G network which provides a much better data transfer rate. In addition to these features, one can always connect to the internet through a WiFi network as this phone is WiFi capable.

Using the Bluetooth feature one can transfer data and exchange files to trusted devices in a smaller range. The same function can be done using the micro USB port. Additionally, the phone supports GPS through Nokia Maps which provide GPS tracking and can generate multiple map views.

One of the best features of the Nokia 808 PureView is undoubtedly its sound quality. The device comes packed with Dolby Digital Plus technology and Dolby Headphone Enhancement technology that adds immense value to the overall audio experience of the user. The device also comes with a built-in FM radio.

In addition to the Ambient Light Sensor and Accelerometer this Nokia phone comes with a Proximity sensor for voice calls, a Magnetometer and a Compass. The Magnetometer provides a 3 dimensional orientation of the phone with respect to the earth, which when combined into this phone, make for some very interesting apps.

Important apps that are bundled into the phone include Youtube and Instant Messaging. The phone also contains social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter so as to keep you in touch with friends and family whenever you wish.

The phone has a few apps for the business minded customers as well. These are Document Viewer and Pushmail. Document Viewer allows you to save and edit documents on your device while Pushmail is for those users who require continuous access to their Email box. Additionally, the phone comes with FOTA (Firmware Over the Air) and FOTI (Firmware over the Internet) which allow the user to update their firmwares via the service provider or online in an easy manner.

    Great product!!

This is the best Cameraphone you can get. Hats off to Nokia. Considering specifications:
    Pros:
    1) 41 MP Multi-Aspect Oversampling Sensor, best camera quality.
    2) The beautiful Nokia Belle FP 1 with Dolby Surround.
    3) 16 GB inbuilt Memory.
    4) Nokia Belle is very well optimized for single core processors and less RAM. It doesn't need quad-core chips.
    Cons:
    1) 184 ppi screen is not good. Symbian should support at least FWVGA resolution.
    2) Design is a but bulky, might uncomfortable to some.
    3) D...

    About PureView Technology

Many have taken by mistake that, 41MP camera!!! what am I going to do with that? Of course it can take images with 34(16:9) or 38(4:3) Megapixels but the real game-changer is the pureview technology which combines 8pixels into one pixel to give stunning 5MP image at 1MB of memory. It can even be set to take 8MP or 2MP images with never before seen quality on a compact camera.

It doesn't stop there, have you ever wanted to zoom into your subject using any phone, of course not because the ima...

    Best of the beast.

First of all I do agree that samsung galaxy s3 is far better than samsung galaxy s2. However, samsung galaxy s2 and nokia n8 are both best of their time. Same is with samsung galaxy s3 and 808 pureview. Both have high end features and more options. 1 is for power gaming and applications, the other is for power usage.

Divyanshu Negi I don't want a DSLR cam. Tell me a DSLR Camera which I can use it with wifi, receive calls, messages, emails, music, gps, games, applications etc. Well now tell m...

Nokia..you are just like Roger Federer.. No matter how many people criticize you, you will prove your metal...

I bought this phone 3 weeks ago and the word that goes for this phone is " THE BOND"... Although Nokia market is going through some jittery phase mostly because of the fandroids, this phone has come as a savior.

The most important point is that people are criticizing Nokia without knowing the features. When I told my friends (who also are fandroids)that I am gonnna buy Nokia 808 pureview, they simply rejected it. When i told them that it has 41 MP camera sensor, dolby surround sound, 1.3 GH...

It's a great product by Nokia

If you are looking for a smartphone with a very good camera then this is the best choice for you. It is not only great in capturing images but also in recording CD quality sound which no other smartphone currently available can capture.

If you are worried about it having Symbian OS, then please be aware that Nokia will support Symbian “at least up to“ 2016. Also remember that it has Nokia Belle which is the best Symbian OS. I have been using Nokia Belle and it's really great.

    You will never...

Royal Enfield of Phones. An one eyed monster.

This phone would have received 5/5 stars. Read below why I gave 4/5 stars.

    1. I stopped using my dedicated camera
    2. I stopped using my ipod.
    3. I stopped using my Radio.
    4. I stopped using Google maps.
    5. I started recording my videos in HD.
    6. Its a conversation piece. Gets lot of attention and eye popping reactions.

    An affair to remember

After my sad experience with an erst Samsung galaxy flagship with maddening lags, worrying hung-ups, a sub-par camera (worse than my N73 of 6 yrs ago) I decided to get back to the brand i started mobile telephony with. Infact i have had 6 back to back Nokias with zero qualms, and android was a serious let down.

    About the phone: the bad
    1. A lot less options than the Adny,
    2. A lot less Apps, the available ones dont look as good
    3. App quality has gone down in the last 2 yrs (from my E71 exp)...

    Interesting Product

As a long time mobile geek, I was looking for the ideal replacement for my trusted N95 (which I purchased 3 year back). Being my first foray into touchscreen smartphones (I also own an Apple iPod Touch), I did a lot of research before settling into this mobile, the king of all cameraphones.

Now, I am no hard core game player or a 24/7 messenger addict or a great app lover. My primary requisites in a mobile are good build quality, user friendly interfaces, excellent camera. I have a read a lo...

Monster Camera on the 808 PureView

I don't know why people keep comparing android vs symbian in the review of a phone.

I've had a chance to play with the 808 PureView phone a few months back. I am really amazed at the quality of pictures that the PureView technology in this phone is capable of delivering. Night snaps especially - the detail in the snaps are clear with no white spots appearing even in low-light conditions.

What a lot of us are unaware of is that this phone was in the making for around 5 years, which means th...
